Story
No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarlet’s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, she’d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching. Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart...except when it comes to Billy Winston. No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstances - because nothing is beyond his control - is Billy’s specialty.

I'm Levi Buchanan, and until five years ago, I thought the legend of my family's curse was a load of crazy, Southern nonsense. No curse can make you fall in love at first sight. No curse can force a true, deep, passionate, all-consuming love that will haunt you all the days of your life. Then I met Jocelyn Abernathy and I realized how completely wrong I was. The problem is, Jocelyn guards her feelings like well-armed soldier. She's the most beautiful, stubborn, infuriating woman I've ever met. Every time she talks, I want to kiss the living daylights out of her. But I can't.

I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. And now, because of my blog, everyone knows that Ice Knights hockey star Ian Petrov's best friend and fellow player is actually his half-brother - hello, hockey Hall of Famer dad who couldn't keep his jeans zipped. That wouldn't be such a big deal if Ian knew. He didn't, and boy howdy is he pissed. And who is he most mad at? Oh sure, he's upset with his dad and former best friend/brother from another mother, but most of his ire is with me. It's definitely a case of hating the messenger.

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress. Something blue. I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old". Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.

Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

In love with Tolstoy
I love Penny Reid. All the books I’ve read of hers, have been awesome. Kissing Tolstoy is no different, although maybe better. The story is so compelling and funny and smart. Anna is a riot, so smart and sarcastic. I love her. Luca is a little tortured, like a character in a russian novel. It’s a slow burn romance, so satisfying And funny. It’s hilarious, actually. So incredibly well written. So intelligent and addictive. The narration is awesome, Fiona Fisher did an amazing job. I could listen to her forever. And Steven Dexter is so intense and seductive. It is an incredible audiobook. I see myself listening to this story many, many times. I truly loved it. I would give it 6 stars, because 5 are not enough. It’s a masterpiece.

Did not enjoy
I had a hard time staying interested. The main character Anna is supposed to be 21 but her personality was more like 12. She irritated me and narrator's voice stayed the same whether she was having a conversation with someone or when you were hearing her thoughts. It was very confusing. Probably the worst narrators so far.

No, Springfield, Transylvania!
Penny Reid is an autobuy for me, and I’ve never been disappointed. This is yet another home run, and I’m wishing Anna was my girlfriend, except that she dwarfs my intellect, and, although I’m pretty well-read, it’s in different genres than hers, obviously (this is a romance, after all). I don’t know where Penny finds these awesome narrators. Fiona Fischer did a fantastic job expressing Anna’s quirky personality. I loved it. I don’t normally award 5 stars, but I can’t seem to stop giving them to Penny Reid.

DNF! I had a hard time believing this was a woman in college, she talked and acted like a middle school age person. Couldn’t stand her and saw no reason for a mature man to be interested in her. For goodness sake she apparently couldn’t get a word out coherently for the first 1/3 of the book. Gah!! Getting my money back.

Inexcusable mispronounced words!
Seriously, doesn't someone with a decent working of the English language listen to these before releasing them? Although I enjoyed her voice, a professional narrator should not make so many mistakes and certainly there should be someone who listens and requires a rerecording when mistakes are made. There are several mispronunciations in this. In addition, this was not Penny Reid's finest work. There really needed to be more plot and character development to make this story of a professor falling in love with a student more believable.

Love Penny, Dislike the Narrators
I love Pennys work and this one was very enjoyable. Its not a Winston book but it was fun! Maybe read this one instead of listen. Maybe Joy Nash should just read all of Pennys books. I enjoy her male and female voices. These two, not so much. Especially Stephen doing a female voice. It sounded drag and distracted from the moment. Depending on the cost it might be better to buy this book instead of using a credit since is only a 5 hour read.

Loved it!
I couldn’t have picked two better narrators. They both made this story come alive. They were a perfect fit! This is one of my favorite Penny Reid books. I’ve loved it since I read part 1 in her news letter. I just wish the book was longer and had more Luca point if views.

Awful book from a great author
I love Penny Reid. I hate this book. From what I’ve gathered, it was written as a serial and released gradually over time in the author’s newsletter for free, then put together as a book with proceeds going to charity for a time, then I can only imagine they thought they may as well put it out there as a general release as they might as well get more money from it. Rubbish! You can tell it was free. All the positive reviews on Audible are doing the author a complete disservice because her other work is consistently 4 or 5 stars for me, and are so much better than this.
Penny Reid is a talented author with great characters in nearly all her other stories, but this book is underdeveloped, full of holes, with tonnes of talking about what the characters feel but completely and utterly failing to make you, the reader, feel it too. That together with the try-hard way that the book tried to tell the reader how incredibly clever the characters are, that they’re special and the relationship is like a literary classic love story (it’s really not), and how it referred to loads of research the author had evidently done into Russian literature at the cost of the actual plot made it a completely unsatisfying read. Poetic declarations do not make a convincing relationship. The book was also far too short to really explore anything.
Ohhhhh Penny. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m returning this and asking for my credit back. I’m looking forward to your next release though (..so long as it’s a normal book and not a serial release)

Read better on Wattpad
I got so bored at Chapter 17 (last chapter before epilogue) that I had to DNF. I never DNF. This book is not like other girls meets I had a fantasy about my high school teacher but have to write it as a college situation so I can incorporate smut. There was no real build up and Anna's personality was a collection of pop and literature references. She annoyed me. Luka had so little personality it's actually impressive. They started out 2D and did not improve. If I didn't already like grumpy/sunshine trope I would hate it by now.
