Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

Known Worked for Me
My name is Faith McKinney and I just finished listening to your podcast interview with Michael Stelzner.
It was wonderful! I have spent 20 years of my life answering the question you posed: Can anyone become known.
I wanted to prove that no matter who you are, where you come from, how much money you have or whether
you are an expert or not. The answer is yes!
I needed to prove and overcome objections of every kind:
I am African- American
My skin color is not light
I am very shy and introverted
I am a woman
I work as a janitor
I live in the hood
I am not a college graduate
I am short 5’2”
I am overweight
I don’t have long hair
I have been married 3 times
I have filed bankruptcy twice
I don’t have money
I was an average student
I have a special needs child
I work full time
I don’t have a lot of time or resources to travel
Over the years I tried to figure out my platform but I also knew that I had to do something
Great and remarkable that would make a dent in the universe.
I donated my kidney.
I thought this would be the platform that I could use but it wasn’t.
I am known for networking and connecting people.
I now produce a television show, host a podcast, speak, lead seminars and interview
Celebrities.
Until today I didn’t know that KNOWN was a real thing!
Getting known has made my life so much more fun and profitable.
Thank you for writing Known.
I’d love to provide a testimonial for you and your process… It worked for me!
All the best,
Faith McKinney

The right book at the right time - Outstanding.
What did you like most about Known?
Known is one of the most inspiring business books I've had the pleasure to listen to. It's helped me come to a major decision about my own business and life. In short, it's given me something we all want - clarity.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Known?
The concept of Passion versus Sustainable Interest is such a strong point, which is so well made.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The story of my friend Chloë and also the story of Chris Brogan's struggle with depression moved me as it's something I've struggled with.
Any additional comments?
The book really benefitted greatly from being read by the author. Mark's personality, passion and honesty made such a difference to the experience.

The Most Inspiring Book I've Ever Listened To
I've followed Mark's blog for a few years, but only listened to his audiobook "Social Media Explained" last month. Then I learnt that "Known" had just been released, so I had to listen too. It's personal, entertaining, and (most importantly) inspiring. In fact, more inspiring than any other book I've listened to. It's wonderfully constructed, performed with humility, and full if real case studies and transferable ideas. Whatever you want to be known for and howler big or small your niche is, you will benefit from this book. Brilliant.

ALL TALK NO ACTION
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Some great stories that make you think about your personal brand, why it's important and the different approaches to becoming known. The author (also narrator) is enthusiastic about the subject. However, there are absolutely no actions for you to take, other than to buy the accompanying workbook. I found that very disappointing, to spend the time and money and then have nowhere to go with his advice.
I think there are better books. 30 DAYS TO SOCIAL MEDIA SUCCESS by Gail Martin (also on Audible), even though a little old now, was jam packed with ideas and actions and I made pages and pages of notes. I feel like Known could be a much better and impactful read if it included some key exercises at the end of every chapter to get you started. I'd probably just buy the workbook and skip this book entirely.

The best book on personal branding
If you are looking for a book on personal branding I strongly recommend you read or listen to this book. Mark narrates the book himself which is a nice touch and he has a style which is very easy to listen to. I was at a cross roads in my career, I've been successful in a number of areas but was still feeling frustrated. This book helped me narrow my focus to understand who I truly am / want to be known for. I'd also recommend buying The Known Personal Branding Workbook too as it helps create a plan to implement what you've learned through the book.
