Publisher's Summary

A lot had changed in "The Holy Sky" School during the six weeks that Hadjar Darkhan was away. Everyone who was in the capital at the time became much stronger, thanks to the regular skirmishes along the Imperial road. By the emperor's decree, all the disciples of the Imperial martial arts schools were allowed to visit the infamous and highly coveted Wastelands. "The Holy Sky's" disciples were especially fortunate - they'd been given a two-week head start to find the map leading to Emperor Decater's tomb, as well as the key that would allow them to enter his chambers.

The school erupted into chaos as everyone wanted to fight for the dead emperor's Inheritance. After all, they wouldn't just find artifacts and alchemical solutions in the tomb, but something far more important as well. Decater's tomb also contained the secrets of all his friends, disciples, and followers. Whoever opened the door to the tomb, regardless of their path of cultivation or abilities, would become the strongest cultivator of their generation. But what would happen if the map and key fell into the wrong hands?

Hadjar Darkhan had returned to the school, but there was no time to rest. A new adventure awaited him.

I Love This Series BUT!

SPOILER! FOR BOOK 1-8

My favorite book(s) in this series is book 2 and 3 because in those Two books Hajar was OP and almost no one could beat him. Then he left his country and traveled the sea of sands on his way to the Empire capital, and then he was just another weakling. And almost everyone was/is more powerful than him Even though he could fight cultivators levels above him.

But In the last couple of books, I have begun to notice a pattern. Hajar would start with an Extremely strong Will power (The only thing extraordinary about him according to many) then in the middle of the book, he would for almost no reason lose his Will/reason to fight. Only for him to get an epiphany and get it back stronger than before. And as it says in the books ``The will power/ look in his eyes could Destroy Mountains and make the gods quake in fear" then the book ends. Then in the next book, the exact same thing would happen. In this book (book 8) it happens not once not twice but THREE times. And it's really annoying.

One other thing I find irritating is that at the End of book 6 Hajar is sent on a mission from his future mentor to get a letter from a friend Who is in a fortress at the border of the Enemy Empire they are at war with. Of course, something happens and Hajar is left stranded and injured behind Enemy lines. Then he gets rescued and taken to an Enemy fortress to be healed. Only for an army of orcs to show up Who needs his help to defeat an Enemy that could Destroy both empires. When the orcs show up we learn that if they wanted to they could Easy Destroy most if not All of the Empire and only the most elite army of the Empire can stop Them. Then along the Journey Hajar gets a few things that would strengthen his body(one of the things that orcs is known for is that it is extremely hard to injure Them) to that of an Earth-type artifact and strengthen/deepen his mana Channels. He gets other rare things that make him stronger. YET when he returns to the Heavens Glory School. His friends and enemies All have grown more in power even though they have only been on one retrieval mission and Hajar has been getting potions and Other powerful things that only the Orcs know about. For example, Einan and Hajar were at the same cultivation power when Hajar left but when he returned Einan was a Spirit knight.
At the beginner stage, and Hajar is only a Heaven soldier at the advanced stage.

I know this story is about Hajar and his hard and painful journey/path to power. Put it really feels like everyone Else can just kill a few cultivators and concentrate a little and Boom they have advanced while Hajar needs to almost die 4 or 5 times and do something really stupid/dangerous only to get a fraction closer to the next level. And it soon gets tiresome that he can never catch a break and just advanced like everyone Else, but always need to get on some legendary quest so that he can get a little closer to the next level. ( i know this is a way for the author to keep reader/listeners interest but still.

Anyway even though it was mostly if not all bad things I had to say about this book I still love this series and I'm going to buy the next book when it gets on Audible. and Hopefully Hajar has become stronger after his two-year training camp

seriously

alright first of great book, good story. Now if we could get just one book where he doesn't get absolutely shit on when it comes to romance then I'll be happy. As they say who wants to stand at the top of your all alone guy love doesn't count

my new favorite of the series

Really enjoying this series. It continues to have a great story line, with unique support characters and an enjoyable path for the MC. I hope that Kevin Collins stays the narrator of this series as he's done such a great job so far. I do wish the opposition characters had a little more variety in the "I'm mad, let's fight" voices. The "lower your voice and yell" voice that's associated with everyone makes it tough in larger fights. It would nice to hear more variety. That said, I'm certain none of us can really understand how difficult narration is and I hope Collins continues to be the narrator of this and many other series.
** I admit I'm doing a copy/paste on this series. I didn't review them when I listened to them but felt these books deserved a review.

Hadjar has no honor

I have enjoyed this series up till this point. In this book hadjar treat people with the same disrespect that he complains about them treating him with. He lies to his allies while demanding that they tell him the truth. He complains about intrigue while constantly lying and setting up schemes of his own. He comes across people who are dealing with the same issues he has been dealing with but refuses to help them. Despite having gone through the same things they have he doesn’t do anything for them and his only excuses he doesn’t want to. In this book he has no honor despite all the books up to this stating that that’s all he has left in his life. He is his uncle in this book he treat others like his uncle treated him. Hadjar has no honor.

enjoyable book

Story progression was good, world building is slow but consistent. Still only has one arc per book, be nice if the book was longer or had more than one arc.

And the story continues...

Love the book, hate the Cursing. Oh wel, What can you do? Language in the books has gone from ok to pretty bad over 8 books, luckily the characters and story over- come it. But it makes it hand to reccomend to others.
I love the friendships and loyalties, the fighting and still meting it through, lots of times with the help of those friends.
N arator is excellent!

Now on to book nine!

Favourite series and narrator

Favourite series and favourite narrator, highly recommend haven’t found a better series so far and the narrator is made for this series, wouldn’t be the same without him. Excellent job by the author aswell, best in the game.
