Story
Centuries ago, the murder of a beloved king tore apart the Kingdom of Caledun. The land was plunged into chaos and thousands perished. A new order was established in an attempt to return Caledun to its former glory. It failed, but in its place rose the beginnings of the Code. During this same period, the mystical caretakers of the Great Wood retreated from the world of Kal Maran, their disappearance an ominous harbinger of the suffering that was to follow. The Great Wood now grows out of control. Cities, towns, and villages have fallen before the relentless march of the forest.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin and the friends find themselves staring death in the face, they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be.

Great Fantasy Coming of Age Story
- By CP on 11-20-20
Publisher's Summary
There is no war. There is only rebellion.
Alijah's reign sweeps from Erador to Ayda. Those who would stand against the king are few, their numbers cast across too many battlefields. Does hope lie in the east? Can the elves turn the tide and keep The Rebellion alive?
The weight of Dhenaheim now rests on Doran's shoulders. Chained and imprisoned, the clans are shattered and spread across the realm. On the island of Qamnaran, they build to the heavens. In the Moonlit Plains, they dig down into the dark. Only the Heavybellys have the mettle to do what must be done.
Astride the mighty Athis, Inara Galfrey fights for The Rebellion as both sword and shield. With blood and sweat she has kept Alijah's forces at bay, but Inara knows there is only one way to defeat her brother. Following this path, however, will take her far from the front lines and into lands long forgotten.
After 10,000 years, the future that was foretold looms near. But Fate has one last hand to deal....

By far the best of the 8 book series.
Philp C. Quaintrell has created something special. it's not that the plots are anything unique, but he writes with an amazing and impressive grasp on the world he's created. And I love every minute of it. Alot or ppl would tell of Steven brands narration as being flat and uninterested. And his performance in Rise of the Ranger: The echoes of fate book 1 wasn't on par with the likes of Simon Vance or Ray Poter and others I consider top class. but by the start of the 3rd book he'd gotten settled into the characters better and then by The Knights of Erodor. echoes of fate book 4 (or 7 in all) he really stepped his game up. And I thought this was his best performance ever. I've never been a huge fanasy reader but stumbling on to this saga has been amazing. I can't wait for the last book. His grasp of the main characters is amazing and his ability to discribe the huge battle sequences is on par with some of the greats. all in all definitely recommend 👍

I feel like the author just didn’t know how to finish this book. He spent a series building the power of hero’s and villains and just didn’t deliver on the ending. The voice/reading was yet again spot on. It was decent but not my favorite .

Tediously overdone.
I’ve followed this series from the beginning. Although not spectacular it’s been good enough solid entertainment with some really good stuff and some not so much. Still the first few books were pretty good. Unfortunately it seems that by book seven Mr. Quaintrell has lost the elements that were good in this series.
In deciding to add drama by both making established characters more stupid and more emotional he’s made all of them completely unlikable. By the middle of book eight I absolutely didn’t care about any of the characters anymore and just wanted them all to die off. They all had become so annoying.
Quaintrell also over explains and repeats the same things over and over. It’s one thing to brush up on the back story in case this is the first book of the series to reader but to continually rehash and repeat the same things about the past and their defining traits every time characters are in a chapter or scene is way way overdone.
It was very hard to get through this book. You can skip two thirds of it and not miss anything not to mention at this point I absolutely do not care what happens to any of them or anything about this world anymore. I will not be continuing this series.
