Financial laws and rules govern what financial institutions such as banks, brokers, and investment companies can do. These rules are generally put into effect by government regulators or international groups to protect investors, maintain orderly markets, and promote financial stability.
After the 2008 financial crisis, governments across the world were empowered to push for financial reforms designed to provide greater transparency of transactions and reduce risk, in order to make financial systems more stable and better regulated and to make global markets safer.
This financial laws and regulations guide helps you understand:
- Banking and Financial Regulation
- Commercial and Corporate Law
- The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
- National Credit Union Administration
- Securities and Exchange Commission
- Commodity Futures Trading Commission
- Federal Housing Finance Agency
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The financial laws & regulation glossary compiles a list of 140 most common terms you’re likely to encounter in alphabetical order. Every law and regulation is explained in detail, with clear and concise article style description and practical examples.

Written by an expert!
This Book 15 of The Financial IQ Series once again offers an in-depth review of market conditions and insolvency case developments in key countries. A debt of gratitude is owed to the outstanding professionals around the world who have dedicated their time and talents to this book. As always, their contributions reflect diverse viewpoints and approaches, which in turn reflect the diversity of their respective national commercial cultures and laws.
Consumer choice for financial products and services is proliferating across global markets. The ability to reach consumers at any time on their mobile phones, tablets or other devices has helped attract substantial capital investment in consumer financial services. After the 2008 financial crisis, governments across the world were empowered to push for financial reforms designed to provide greater transparency of transactions and reduce risk, in order to make financial systems more stable and better regulated and to make global markets safer. This survey of consumer finance law describes the legal and regulatory approaches taken in the jurisdictions covered. Each chapter addresses the key characteristics of, and current climate within, a particular jurisdiction. Although payments, lending and deposits are the focus of this survey, other financial products and services are discussed where relevant. The purpose of this inaugural edition of Financial Laws and Regulations is to provide securitisation attorneys, borrowers, lenders and other market participants with insight into a sample of structural frameworks and regulatory issues surrounding the industry in a broad array of jurisdictions. This edition is not intended to be a comprehensive overview of securitisation regulation and structures in every jurisdiction, but rather to provide a frame of reference for, and a comparison of, the various structural features available and the regulatory considerations necessary in securitising assets globally.
It is the only book in this field that explains clearly everything about financial and banking regulation. Also written by prominent legal scholars makes it easier to understand for lawyers.

Short, yet useful
Despite the significant growth of the global structured product market in recent years, very few books on legal and regulatory issues related to structured products are available. We hope that this publication will contribute to the knowledge base of legal practitioners and other structured product market participants. For our purposes, the term structured product refers to a pre-packaged investment that combines derivatives with other financial instruments to provide a return based on the performance of one or more underlying assets, including equity securities, indices, commodities, interest rates, currencies and, in some jurisdictions, credit risks. We are honoured to present the 15th edition of The Financial Laws and Regulations Review. The chapters that follow describe the manner in which are Commercial and Corporate Law, The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, National Credit Union Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Banking and Financial Regulation, and also Consumer Financial Protection Bureau etc. The financial laws & regulation glossary compiles a list of 140 most common terms and every law and regulation is explained in detail, with clear and concise article style description and practical examples.

Excellent Book On Succesful Negotiation
This long-awaited book is a landmark in the field of financial regulation, from three leading authorities in the field. It is a crucial resource both for teachers of financial regulation (like me) and for anyone seeking a deep, comprehensive, thoroughly up-to-date treatment of the subject.
This is an outstanding book, and is destined to take its place as the leading audiobook and reference volume on financial regulation. Traditional texts on this topic would either take a “bank” or “securities regulation” approach. In the post-crisis world, this bifurcation is no longer tenable, and a modern book must synthesize these two approaches. The book by Mr. Thomas Herold accomplishes this synthesis brilliantly. Beyond its role as a textbook, it succeeds as a work of scholarship: a practitioner listening this book would see how current law relates to the frontier of academic knowledge; a scholar reading the book would learn how the academic literature relates to current practice. I would like to be able to complain about something (just for balance!), but I cannot think of anything worthy of complaint.
Highly recommended for university courses (we will be assigning it at my school), for practicing lawyers and regulators, and for interested general readers (the topic is of broad policy importance in the post-crisis world.)

Our past affects our present
I absolutely cannot say enough good about this book. I deal with these issues for a living, and this is, hands down, one of the best books I have ever read on putting together, dot, by dot, why we are where we are in 2020. How the author made it so compelling, readable, interesting and accessible is beyond me. The only negative thing I have to say is that the title does so little to belie the real significance of this book. It has a title that will turn off some because a book about banking sounds boring, and a book about a racial wealth gap would scare away those who would think it is too "radical." It is so neither!!! In a tremendously interesting way, the author does an incredible job of telling the story, step by step, of where we all find ourselves in 2020 and why. The factual, but not dry, story, is one that EVERYONE can learn from. It is truly, truly, an awesome book. I'm on my second read and I have recommended to everyone from my Uber driver to the head of the Finance department of a major university. Do yourself a favor and listen it. You will NOT regret it!

Principles of Financial Regulation
Since childhood, I am blessed with a little bit of sixth sense as I understood. I can sense bad things of future naturally, although I truly love to sense the great things those will occur in future and very next moment to my family and myself.
I must say during college days unknowingly I had used the law of attraction to attract positive results for my education. Very strangely I noticed magic when I was in college. I specifically thought I will get 66.9% on 1st year, 69.3% on 2nd year and finally 72.1% on the final year of Engineering college, and to the very best of surprising me I did get these marks in those college years, which is now an integral of my life in this incarnation. So I truly believe in my heart what Herold has described in the introductory chapters. I am very excited by realizing the fact that I already have this attraction power on finance laws since childhood, but now I will learn how to use day in day out properly from Herold to attract positive abundance and unconditional unlimited happiness for my family and for myself in the finance sectors. Now I have the knowledge of Banking and Financial Regulation, The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and also on
The fi.
I believe in God, so I am sure faith of God has directed me to the correct person to be on the correct path of life. Thank you.

Never been told
Leveraged finance, particularly with respect to acquisition financing, has been an expanding asset class for many years. This volume is intended to introduce the newcomer to the legal basics involved in leveraged finance, particularly acquisition finance, so that he or she is grounded in the underpinnings of the practice area. It is also intended to be a helpful update for the more seasoned practitioner with respect to what is new and what is being talked about in leveraged finance deals. It was very informative and the pace of the course is right for me. The examples included illustrates the application really well. Thanks for a wonderful presentation

Tom puts sound ideas in easy-to-digest pieces; he is trustworthy, giving warnings of what to avoid which is key to survival. I think there is big value in what I'm hearing.
We are now at the halfway point - I have no need to change my first impressions, if anything it is solidified. This material is useful- I can see where it applies, pretty exciting after all this time!
I have now completed the course; it was consistently good throughout - for anybody to trade in Futures without this knowledge would be well-advised to take and learn this material.

Well-Documented, Shocking Story.
This book was shocking and powerful. As someone who does not generally read books about banking, I found it enthralling and heartbreaking. The author writes with an exceptional clarity that makes the material accessible and poignant. Before reading this book, I had never considered the connection between banking and racial injustice in America. Now, it’s hard to imagine any discussion of race that does not involve banking policy. Anyone interested in creating a more just society needs to read this book.
