Publisher's Summary

This program is read by the author.

The ultimate guide on leadership from the number-one New York Times best-selling coauthor of Extreme Ownership.

In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak.

But what if you are promoted into a new position leading your former peers? What if you don’t get selected for the leadership position you wanted? How do you overcome imposter syndrome when you aren’t sure you should be leading? As a leader, how do you judiciously dole out punishment? What about reward? How do you build trust with your both your superiors and your subordinates? How do you deliver truthful criticism up and down the chain of command in a tactful and positive way?

These are all questions about leadership - the most complex of all human endeavors. And while there are books out there that provide solid leadership principles, books like Extreme Ownership and The Dichotomy of Leadership, there is no leadership field manual that provides a direct, situational, pragmatic how-to guide that anyone can instantly put to use.

Until now. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need - not just to understand the leadership game but also how to play the leadership game and win it.

Liked it so much I'm driving to NY to see him chat

JOCKO - if I had you as a mentor (writing, podcasts, the 'gram, etc.) growing up, I'd be a different person today as an adult. I've read (and re-read) every book you and Leif have put out, and those you drafted on your own. My six-year-old is about as big a Mikey fan as you could imagine. I have achieved a lot in my life, but a few years ago I got comfortable. I have served my country, but I stopped serving, and stopped hard, I did. I am now back on track, better than ever, and I take your words seriously and have implemented much into my daily routing including beating you to rise at 4:30 - a game I like to play.

"Leadership Strategy and Tactics" didn't disappoint. I read half last night when I got home from work (thanks for the prompt shipping, Amazon!) and finished the rest after buying the Audible this morning during my commute and first few hours in the office. About to listen again and take notes. Thank you, sincerely, for making me a better husband, father, worker, owner of a company and servant of others.

Semper Fidelis,
Bretton

Awesome info

It was a great listen. But having listened to the podcast extreme ownership and dichotomy of extreme over ship multiple times, it was a lot of the same information. It drives it home and revamped a lot of the knowledge I missed or didn't remember in the other books

Not what I expected...

Couldn't make it past the first chapter... The author attempts to connect leadership in life and business to leadership in the Navy Seals. This is an absurd notion for many reasons and his gung ho, military style of narration just made it even more ridiculous. The military has a singular goal and individual needs are dismissed. That is not how life is for anyone outside the military and I wouldn't work for anyone who runs a business in such a manner.

Very redundant but a decent read

This is a decent book, but honestly it could be only half a long as it is and it would still be the same message. There are really only three themes: 1) check your ego 2) let subordinates plan things so they feel a sense of ownership and 3) be humble. That’s literally it.

Jocko repeats these same three points over and over again by just rephrasing or repackaging the same stories in each chapter. Personally I feel like most of the lessons he discusses are common sense for any leader which left me wanting something deeper than hearing, “check your ego” 5000 times.

Overall it’s a decent book and I don’t regret reading/listening to it. If you’ve never been in a leadership role before it’s definitely worth the time, but if you’ve been a supervisor or manager in the past it may leave you wanting something deeper.

NOW CHECK YOUR EGO!!!!

Extreme usefulness!

Thanks Jocko! This book distills your thoughts and experience in a useful format. I know this book will help me because I have already put some of your teaching into practice. Just finished the Audible version and have the Kindle version for reference.
Every leader needs this book and almost everyone is a leader. You could also use it for a parenting manual.
Thanks again!

Outstanding

Jocko has a way of inspiring anyone who listens to be a better leader and a better person. These tactics and strategies are an extremely concise version of the principles discussed in Extreme Ownership and Jocko's other books, as well as the podcast which is also. OUTSTANDING.

Jocko delivers again

I got the chance to here Jocko speak in Hawaii this year, and whether he is speaking, writing, or narrating, he delivers his message perfectly. His writer/narrator combo allows him to perfectly emphasize his points, and he has truly helped me shape my leadership style. A must read for any leader or future leader
