This is… not good

This audiobook is fairly useless. It seems like the creators of this book looked up a bunch of random, fairly useless phrases on Google Translate and simply arranged for the listener to repeat the phrases.

There is no explanation as to certain expressions, and the pronunciation of even simple words is incorrect (i.e. tu, même, faire du sport, etc.). The translation is inaccurate, unexplained, or lazy in certain parts.

The uselessness of phrases can be summed up in one sentence early on when the listener is supposed to tell somebody something like, “I enjoyed your presentation, especially the moment about the flat-Earth theory.” Ok… like, when would anybody actually ever use this in a real conversation?

Duolingo is (way) better, and their podcast is far better than this audiobook. Save your money.

Can't pick out the words

How the heck am I supposed to pick up phrases when all the spoken words in the phrases and sentences run together (and slow speed doesn't seem to help much)? The problem is that the individual words in these read French sentences tend to liaise into one another so that all the non-French ear will hear is a string of "run-on" French syllables without necessarily knowing what words in French to pack and parse these syllables into. I'm intermediate in the sense that I know 99% of the French words in these lessons and can spell and pronounce them, but I can't yet parse them out in spoken normal-speed French without a syllabus to look at. The spoken English translations don't help either because I still don't know which English word in the sentence translates which assembly of spoken French syllables. I don't know how to make this style of language teaching better except possibly to break down the spoken French words, and English translations, into 3- or 4-word packages until they are learned and then finally meld them together into longer phrases and sentences. Cut out the spelling (that's for beginners) and most of the "Repeat after me's," which tend to get tedious, and just make learnable packets to build upon.

OK for Canadian French

Did not realise it was narrated by a Canadian French speaker which made it made it quite challenging to understand and learn the pronunciation
