One of the Greatest Pastors of his generation

I have enjoyed listening to this book many times since I bought it. I find it very enjoyable. C.H. Spurgeon was not a formally educated man but was a lifelong student of the Christian faith once he was converted at age 19. He became a preacher who, before microphones could be heard by a crowd of 23,000 people. He actually asked his faithful to stay at home every fourth Sunday so the "unbelievers" would have a chance to hear him. I have read or studied many of the books put out this generation about this pastor that died 120 years ago.
This and many other books have been written in contemporary English as many of the words that were used in Spurgeons day and age are antiquated and not easy to understand. I highly recommend this if you like to listen to the Classic Christian Pastors such as Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, and George Whitfield.

Timeless and priceless

Where does Lectures to My Students rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Absolutely one of the best books I've listened to.

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

The narration was absolutely amazing. I have never heard Charles Spurgeon speak, however Grover Gardner brings his words to life so much that I'm often tempted to think I'm listening to the author himself!!!

Any additional comments?

I often catch myself marveling at how current and relevant this is even though he lived so long ago. I would heartily recommend it to everyone considering serving in ministry.

Indispensable and hilarious!

This is one of the funniest books I have read in ages! Spurgeon’s wit and language is very much like Chesterton’s and he excels in that wonderful British understatement that will have you in tears! At the same time the book is a treasury of insights from the prince of preachers! People from all walks of life, not just preachers, will find this very fruitful!

Still the best book for preachers

Where does Lectures to My Students rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is a little out of date for some things but for the principles that make for a good preacher, you cannot beat it. Read portions of this book 40 years ago but it was good to listen to it straight through (over several days)

Great advice and learning from a great man of God

I would expect nothing less from the likes of Spurgeon! Can be a little bit trying because of the old English language that is used, but well worth listening to!

Wonderful Book!

The narration is done perfectly and brings Spurgeon’s humour out nicely. It also gives an interesting look at his thought processes on preaching while offering some helpful insight.

Worth the read...surprisingly very funny too

If you could sum up Lectures to My Students in three words, what would they be?

This was brilliant, This is the first full work I've read from "The Prince of Preachers" Charles Spurgeon.

He was an excellent writer and teacher and is surprisingly very funny, lots of LOL moments in this one while delivering timeless truths in an approachable way.

Worth the read! especially if yo will be or are already involved in some sort of Pastoral Ministry.

Another nice surprise for me as a Londoner was the he mentioned areas, and roads I'm really familiar with. His school is up the road from our church and he mentioned Seven Dials which is where I work in London :)

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

An excellent performance by Grover Gardener

A Preachers Best Friend

Any preacher shouldn't be allowed into the pulpit without reading or listening to CHS Lectures.

Long, but good. A little dry in places

Some of it speaks to its time, but a lot of it is really good. Some highlights are the sections on anecdotes and illustrations. Talking about posh people who sneer at the telling of normal stories at the pulpit and in sharing the good news, Spurgeon says “Those who are too refined to be simple need to be refined again.” A man with a love for Jesus and a gift for humour.

The Prince of preachers

“Lectures” is quite a large volume and obviously not all content will be agreeable. There is however much to stimulate the mind and for this reason even that which is disagreeable is of benefit in that the mind is and heart exercised. The lectures cover a vast array of topics and therefore this is bound to be something of interest to all who listen.
