Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

Brutal Action Scenes
Corin is called on by his boss not to protect him but to go find his daughter Nalissa but alas by the time he gets there she is kidnapped by bloodthirsty assassins who will stop at nothing to sell her off for as much as they can get.
The only problem with this book is that I wish it were longer to develop more dialogue between the characters. Luckily though this is a series with more in store for the readers!

⚔️Legends of the Longsword - Book 2 Review⚔️
Book 2 of The Legends of Ansu series is a continuation of Gray Wolf. It follows Corin an Fol as he strives to rescue Nalissa from her villainous captors.
Between J. W. Webb’s writing and Andrew McDermott’s narration, they pair perfectly to paint the story which allows the reader/listener to be transported to each scene and feel as if they are living the fantasy themselves.

Great Addition to the Story
I enjoyed this 2nd book so much more so than the 1st. It flowed smoothly and kept you listening to the end.
Mr McDermott brought out the personalities of each character like you were there with them. As a plus, his accent always takes me back to memories of my grandmother. So he's on the fast track to being one of my favorite narrator's.

Corin an Fol’s mercenary wild ride
This the 2nd book in a series about Corin an Fol, former soldier, now mercenary. This book is better at developing the characters and settings. You easily feel as if you were there. Corin is a sort of good/bad guy and the main character. Hagen on the other hand is just a bad guy that is fessed out well and you grow to hate. It’s a great fast moving adventure that leaves you wanting more!
The author’s, J. W. Webb, style is perfectly matched with the narrator, Andrew McDermott. He is Corin an Fol. I highly recommend this book and series!

Great continuation of the series
I really enjoyed listening to this book. As I've mentioned before, anything Andrew McDermott narrates is a book I'll listen to! This story fortunately can stand on its own as well! The characters are interesting and well developed with room for growth in the future stories, as this is book 2 I'm sure there will be many more to enjoy. The story world is detailed and interesting. The book is well written and I recommend it for sword and sorcery or fantasy fans! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Antihero you want to be a hero
There is so much wrong with Corin an Fol. He is rude, he is lazy, he truly doesn't care about anyone except himself. Somehow though, you keep expecting him to show signs of nobility. The narrator was good though there were times that his accent made it hard to understand what he was saying exactly, but it did make the story feel more realistic. The plot of saving the daughter of Silon did show that there are good traits for Corin like dedication and creative problem-solving.
Bottom line: This is a good story about an antihero that you love even while you hate.

One of the better books for me
This is the fourth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. ??
We meet a new character, Higgins. He becomes Corin’s alley/nemesis. Their relationship is complicated. As Corin tries to retrieve Nalissa (his boss’ daughter) he learns there is a very dangerous assassin involved. And eventually he runs into someone he thought he’d never see again. Good thing too, because they often save his bacon. There is more behind these events than any of them can imagine.
The gods involvement is more cohesive in this book. Prior to this I’ve found it awkward and almost unnecessary.
This is the fourth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Andrew McDermott ). He has great character voices (both male and female) and does well performing the book instead of just reading and that compensates for the distracting start-stop narration style (however I am getting used to it).
There are no explicit sex scenes, there is plenty of violence but not overly gory. There is mild, occasional swearing.

This book covers a little bit of everyone. Corin* is on his next task and does what a sword needs to do. The timeline is still off for me according to what the 1st book tried to state, so I am not sure what's going on there. A relatively decent read. Already headed into the next one. As good as the first if not better!
After really enjoying the first installment of this series I was really looking forward to this story and I was not disappointed, set in an interesting universe the main characters are likable and the story seems to move along at a nice pace. This felt like a different type of story to the last but it was just as good if not better. The narrator does a great job at bringing the characters to life and I am looking forward to the next installment.

Action, intrigue, sardonic humour
The action continues (and plenty of it) in Legends of the Longsword, the second instalment of the Mercenary trilogy. I love the sardonic humour of quite a bit of the dialogue, the intrigue enhanced by the inclusion of a shapeshifting female assassin, and the realistic depiction of any fighting and swordplay (not for the squeamish). JW Webb’s vivid descriptions of characters and events are excellent and Andrew McDermott’s marvellous narration really brings the book to life.
