Sound advice

If you are an Elisabeth Elliot fan you will greatly enjoy reading this sweet letter that she wrote to her daughter Valerie. It’s sound biblical advice on marriage. The narrator does an incredible job. I loved this book and will one day give it to my daughter.

I do not recommend this book

let me start off by saying that I love Elizabeth elliot. I think she was an incredible lady and really loved the Lord. however, I think a lot of what she says in this book is off-base, and I would never recommend it to anyone. there are some good truths in here about how to be a good wife, but it's surrounded by so many other things that are culturally-founded and not in scripture. she made a lot of claims about masculinity and femininity that are found nowhere in scripture, and if they are, she did not back them up. I think that masculinity and femininity is such a mystery, and when we try to nail it down and pigeon-hole what it really means, we always get in trouble. That said, I do think that scripture is clear on roles in marriage, but I also think that there is so much not said. I think that's intentional, because there are so many different types of men and women that exist and so many ways a marriage could play out. also, she leaves no room for abusive relationships. if I had read this book while I was married, it would have reinforced that I was stuck in a terrible situation and no one could help me. all that to say, I don't think reading this book is worth it

Wise Words

I stumbled upon this book at the perfect time in my life. I am engaged and I am living in a culture that cannot define what a woman is. Elisabeth Elliot offers wisdom and grace to all her readers, whether they be men or women, but they resonate deeply for me.

"Traditional" Wifery

I think that the book points out a lot of good points on how to have a good relationship and marriage. however, I think not all of it applies in today's context.

Perfect Mother to daughter advice

A book I’d like to give my daughter one day when she is ready for marriage. I imagined my own late mother giving me these nuggets of godly advice, which I will share. And, It’s beautifully narrated.
