Publisher's Summary

You are so young. You may wonder what an old man like me could teach? I wonder as well. I certainly don't claim to know all the answers. I'm barely figuring out the questions...Life has a strange way of repeating itself and I want my experience to help you...My hope is that you'll consider my words and remember my heart.

Harry Whitney is dying. He has Alzheimer's disease, and he knows his "good" time is dwindling. So he compiles a book of poems for his favorite granddaughter, Emily, hoping that his words of hard-won wisdom will heal the old wounds that are tearing his family apart. But Harry's poems contain much more than meets the eye -- clues and riddles that lead to an extraordinary cache of letters and a promise of hidden gold. As Emily and her family uncover Harry's secrets one by one, they learn unforgettable lessons about romance, forgiveness and hope that might hold them all together.

Fantastic whimsical life lesson-filled story

Read this book! This book is so much more than a book on poetry to a granddaughter. Don’t think I’ve ever had a book contain so many life lessons for everyone. Whimsical and honest life events are intertwined into real struggles of marriage, parenting, death, mental illness, and love. This is all mixed with solving riddles from the poetry. Not your typical poetry book so don’t hesitate to read this whether young, old, male, female, anyone. And great performance when listened to as an audible.

Great words of wisdom

Thoroughly enjoyed this engaging tale of family. Dealing with grief and reconciling our perceptions to what another person was actually going through at a time oh, good story.

Not that great

This is an okay book, an interesting premise that started out great, but ended up just okay. It isn’t really about Emily, there are Letters to Emily, but the main characters are Emily’s parents, I found this a little odd. I also found it odd that Harry was writing life advice that was protected by passwords and stuff. I’ll say one thing for sure, if Harry had written letters to me protected by secret codes and passwords, I never would have got his great advice because I stink at that sort of stuff.

This book was very thought provoking.

The man who wrote the poems was so very good at expressing his thoughts and had answers to many life's challenges. I enjoyed how the author put clues to get each poem and stories "for Emily" but were for anyone reading them.

Lessons we need to be reminded

The poems are going straight for a home run!
It touched my heart and reminded me of the true meaning of the events that are unfolding in my life. Losing and gaining, achievements and failures! Reading this for some is just a book of poem but perhaps read it again in a quite or right time. This will go to my best books!
