Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Publisher's Summary
Follow the career of a young officer in the 22nd Century genetically engineered space navy.
In an era of genetic engineering, Lieutenant Henry Gallant is the only Natural (non-genetically enhanced) officer left in the fleet. In spite of his superiors' concerns that he is not up to the challenge, his unique mental abilities have proven essential to the defense of the United Planets in its fight against the Titan invaders.
Gallant allies himself with Alaina Hepburn, the leader of the democratic opposition. With Alaina's help, he discovers that the ancient AI has a sinister ulterior motive and he must match his exceptional mind against the complexity of machine intelligence to escape the ultimate trap and prevent the extermination of humanity.
In Lieutenant Henry Gallant, one man pits the naked human mind against the perspicacity of machine intelligence.

The saga gains steam...
Henry Gallant has now been promoted to Lieutenant. In this story, he is testing out the first FTL ship in the fleet and battling an alien AI that is ancient and sinister. Henry must use his unique, non-genetically engineered mind against the AI.
More exciting than the first book, this one is a little longer, and has more action. We also have a new narrator for book 2, and he is very good and kept the excitement going.

Excellent Military Sci-fi
Author has well depicted the multiple serious choices needed to be made by military officers, and the stress they operate under. The setting for the story and the changes in expected norm, are well thought out. The narrator performed well with good vocal pressure, and clear annunciations
I recommend this audiobook for ages 17 and older due to some adult situations and violence.

Serious interfacing
This book continues the adventures of Henry Gallant. He has developed in his career as a Naval Officer and has been deployed in the first FTL ship to explore a nearby star system. What they discover is that the Titans are already there and after a battle in which they are outclassed the book involves Henry and his trying to work with a group of humans to deal with them to make needed repairs. His many adventures are at times emotional and at times highly dangerous.
This book is well written and moves well. The narration is very good.

Lieutenant Henry Gallant The Henry Gallant Saga,
OMG! This series is fascinating! It's like listening to the radio shows back in the 50s. Henry Gallant has made Lt and is on a ship testing out a new way for them to cross millions of space in days instead of years. Unfortunately when they come out at their target site, they are met by the enemy. They are hit hard and many of the crew are killed. The ship is totally incapacitated. The reader joins Henry as he's running from the enemy boarding party while trying to get to his comrades. He is injured and manages to grab a medical kit to doctor his injuries. He finally makes his way to the command center and joins in the fight against the enemy. Unfortunately at the end of the fight, the captain is killed. The XO is made Captain. The first order is for Henry to go down to the planet and there he finds the host of people the Titans, the enemy, has kidnapped years before from a mining sight. Plans for help from the planet through the President who desires weapons and holds sway through ruthless terror. Then the plants that was built for helping Henry's ship comes under attack. Then an alien AI with murderous tendencies is discovered.
Theo Copeland is fantastic as the narrator. He draws you in and his voice will enthrall you.

Excellent 2nd book
Peter Alesso continues to deliver in this series. I especially enjoyed the way he has built up the main character in the series - Henry Gallant. Gallant is not flashy or arrogant in the way he handles himself and is willing to take on the hard jobs to get the mission accomplished. I would have liked to have seen a little more back story from book 1 with regards to his lack of implants, but overall a very good story. Theo Copeland does an excellent job in telling the story and keeping you interested.

Don't cry for me Alaina.
An exciting story with complex ideas, told in simple terms.
Henry Gallant is the only non genetically enhanced human aboard the United Planet's revalutionary ship, Intrepid, on it's maiden voyage to Tao-Ceti and fuelled by dark matter. Gallant, because of his difference, was suspected and rejected by many of the crew but slowly had begun to gain respect and seniority. However, a surprise attack by a Titan Destroyer Class ship as they approached the second of five plants in the system, left Intrepid badly damaged, her crew severely reduced and her amiable Captain dead, to be succeeded by the XO, Anton Neuman, a man with no liking for Gallant. And the feeling was reciprocated: when they returned to Earth, Neuman was to marry the woman with whom Gallant had fallen in love.
Tau Beta, the second planet, is earthlike and, surprisingly, inhabited by humans. How had they arrived there? But there was the possibility of restoring Intrepid before the Titan ship returned, the only hope, in fact, so Gallant was sent down to make it happen.
With plenty of fighting action spread through the body of the book, there is also intrigue and betrayal, the whispers of a new romance, and philosophical discussions with an egotistical AI. It all makes for an excellent story. The only downside is the lack of character development: the protagonists, especially Gallant himself, remain two dimensional despite this being the second book in the series. Some of this is mitigated by the narration of Theo Copeland, who reads with clarity and expression, pacing his delivery with the text, his voicings of all the characters distinctive and individual. A nice performance.
My thanks to the rights holder of Lieutenant Henry Gallant, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy of the book, via Audiobook Boom. Although the second in the Gallant saga, this book is fully stand alone, any necessary background information covered in this volume. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a good SF story with battle detail, interesting ideas and good world building.
