Mike Sexton is a legend in the poker world.

In a life spanning over four decades as a poker professional, Mike has excelled both on the felt and on the business side of poker. He is a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, helped create PartyPoker in 2001, and was a key player in an event that changed the poker world forever - the launch of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in 2002. He has been a commentator on the WPT, along with Vince Van Patten, since its inception.

In addition, Mike was recognized as poker's Top Ambassador at the Card Player Magazine Player of the Year Awards gala in 2006. That same year, he won WSOP Tournament of Champions, winning $1 million in prize money - half of which he donated to charity. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009.

In this book, Mike recounts his personal experiences and gives his take on some of poker's legendary characters over the past 40 years. If you enjoy poker, are fascinated by the development of the game, and enjoy compelling poker, golf, and gambling adventures, then you'll love Life's a Gamble.

Outstanding Gambling Memoir

You likely know Mike Sexton from his enthusiastic commentary on the world poker tour, the televised poker show that changed poker forever and helped ignite the poker boom.
Before listening to his narration of his own memoir, that's all I knew about the author. I now know far more, and in as entertaining a manner as it's possible to learn about someone's fascinating life.
This book is not only about Mike; it is filled with stories of many of the legendary gambling names of the last two generations. I heard stories here I had heard nowhere else. While I would never want to live those stories, they were fascinating to learn.
Highly recommended.

A Great Life's Story Told by the Man Himself!

I definitely loved Mike's story & loved that he himself narrated it which really makes it even. Have always liked Mike Sexton over the years but like & appreciate him even more after listening to his book. You do not have to be a big poker guy to really enjoy this book it's really a good & entertaining book.

An inspirational story of a life well lived.

More golf and ballroom dancing then I expected but Mike had a great life and a great attitude towards life. He had some good luck but he was also bold enough to put himself in situations where he could get lucky. Fun read.

Fantastic!

Mike will be missed.
He was a true gentleman, a straight shooter and matured into a proud family man.
Under rated on the felt but can't say enough about his character!
Rest well Mike.

Passion does not make up for it...

A very dry and unorganized chronicle of the author’s life however passion there may be

A better poker player than narrator or author.

After the first section about his childhood the audiobook seems to get bogged down in bland descriptions of games he's seen or been in. His attitudes to life were too right wing and unthinking and made me like the man less.

Must hear for any poker player.

Great hear especially as Mike does the reading. I've heard a bunch of the stories before but they sound so much better coming from someone that lived them.

Finally an anecdotal poker book!

Any additional comments?

I have long been searching for a poker book that isn't concerned with strategy, something that I can listen to casually and will spark my interest in the game. This book is exactly that. Mike Sexton details his career in poker, golf and sports gambling with numerous anecdotes featuring some names you'll recognise and some you'll want to know more about.

If I have one criticism it is that for some reason Sexton repeats quotes and smaller details of anecdotes as though he hasn't previously told you the exact same thing earlier in the book.

Overall it is a great read, by a very interesting individual and the self-narration brings an additional quality to the book.

My first audible book

I purchased this book the other day and an hour later went on Instagram and seen Phill Hellmuth post that this wonderful man had passed away. I had no idea he was even sick so I was determined to get through this book and learn more of this mans legacy. WOW!
A must have for any true fan of poker, hearing all the degenerate gambling stories and what it was like back in the day was a real eye opener. Mike sexton did so much for poker and Ioved hearing all his crazy stories. BUY THIS BOOK

Poker and high stakes gambling stories, love it!

Mike's book is a must for anyone who loves hearing about poker and high stakes gambling in the earlier years. Mike's knowledge and first hand experience is unbelievable. Learn just how involved Mike has been with the growth of poker, as he helped many concepts rise, and witnessed the rise (and fall) of many of poker's greatest players. Mike does repeat himself in some parts which was probably more noticeable to me because once I started listening, I couldn't stop! A great read/listen.
