Publisher's Summary

With the looming threat of death now hanging over his head, Roy makes the difficult decision to leave the crater. Unfortunately for him, leaving won’t solve his problems, especially those stemming from within.

With Aika captured, Roy finds himself banished to the Wilds, once again powerless against the forces of Buryoku.

Powerful forces are gathering, and he’ll have to make his choice quickly. Buryoku is not kind to the weak, and Roy knows that better than anyone. Will he rise up to reclaim what was once his, or will he fall prey to his innermost demons and fade into obscurity?

Don’t waste your time

Author mentality: “Let’s see my MC is a whiny weakling. let’s make him whine and complain the whole book, oh and let’s take away all his power.” Who told the author that we like reading about crybaby MCs?

Just bad writing.

If you want a 1 star, all you have to do is nurf your mc. Also make mc dumber than everyone else.

Adding in filler conflict

The trope-ishly overdone and annoying losing power until you understand it with added filler from other characters was annoying and lazy. It felt like a slosh of disappointment and I wish the author hadn't put us through it. I wanted to love this as much as the first, but the author wanted to pad the story.

Loved Roy but Aika not so much.

I enjoyed this book a great deal. It’s was very entertaining for the most part. I love Roy and his character’s progression. Initially, I liked Aika. However, Aika at times, she just got on my nerves. If she ceased to exist, that would be totally fine. She ruined what would have been an awesome 5 star book.

Great Continuation!

Great story and narration!

Roy and Aika are back and on the run! Trying to advance quickly to survive, they decide to flee the Crater and search for a place to belong. New enemies and allies alike await our cultivators as they continue their journey into the unknown.

Mare Trevathan did a great job of narrating and bringing the characters to life.

Roy faces self doubt in this book, but as he works trough it the journey is totally worthwhile! I loved it!

If you enjoyed the first book in this series then you will love this one as well.

I can't wait for the story to continue!

Waste of time

You know a book is bad when you keep wishing the main character will die.

I get it!

Reading books like this makes me think I can be an author. So simple and predictable, but why ? So many authors have taken from game of thrones, this book didn’t. Wimpy wimpy wimpy guy, girl is ultra powerful? What?! Book could be great, make the mane character stonger

Weakness

I had to put this book down half way through. The title should not have been called light but weakness or whiny. The Mc finally getting what he wants decides he doesn't want it he just complains that he can't be instantly the most powerful person to ever live. And the plot for this book is super obvious. All I can say is the main character is a giant idiot. I hate when an author says this character is intelligent and they make them super dumb.

IT GETS BETTER

I fell in love with book 1 now I'm in love with the story as a whole. Thank you for talking away reality if only for a short time. This has become my favorite way to take a break.

Conditioner

I listen to pretty much everything Aaron Oster writes. The quality of his books is pretty consistent so if you like one of his books, you'll probably like them all.

Strong sequel that nicely expands scope of series

While you could jump into this series with this book as it is entertaining enough in it's own right, I would recommend reading or listening to the first one if you haven't already as it is an enjoyable book and you will appreciate this book in the series that much more due to a stronger connection to the characters.

This instalment strikes a good balance between the main character's progression and not falling into a trap of him getting things too easily without setbacks and by getting that balance right, the author increases our engagement with the characters, you are willing him to succeed rather than simply expecting him to do so.

The narration works well with this book, helping to enhance the listener's enjoyment of the book overall and ensuring that the characters are suitably distinctive in tone too.

Overall, an enjoyable listen that makes me look forward to subsequent books in the series even more.
