Story
In this sweeping, threaded narrative of the global phenomenon known as the Vampire Wars, mankind is unwittingly infected by a millennia-old bacteria unknowingly exhumed by a scientific expedition in Antarctica. Now, in some rare cases, a person’s so-called junk DNA becomes activated. Depending on their racial and ethnic heritage, they begin to manifest one of the many diverse forms of the "others" that are the true basis for the legends of supernatural creatures. These aren’t your usual vampires and werewolves - it goes much deeper than that.

Story
There's something out there in the dark. There's always something watching. There's always something reaching for you. Always. And sometimes there?s someone you can call. Someone you can hire. Someone who knows these dark streets and back alleys. Someone who knows how things work in this part of town. Private eyes who are often as dark as the things they hunt. Investigators who know how to look in the shadows for the things that go bump. Good guys but not always nice guys. Hardboiled Horror collects fifteen original tales of noir mystery shot through with elements of horror and the supernatural.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Gutsy and her friends, along with Benny and his crew, have just survived a massive attack on New Alamo by the Night Army - a mix of mindless shambling los muertos and sentient half-zombie ravagers. She's also reeling from the revelation that the residents of her town were the lab rats of the biological testing facility linked to creating the most dangerous zom, the Raggedy Man, who controls all of the living dead. Publisher's Summary
The Limbus saga continues with five more stories of horror, science fiction, and fantasy from some of the industry's brightest stars - Jonathan Maberry, Seanan McGuire, Keith R.A. DeCandido, Laird Barron and David Liss.
Thomas Malone thought he'd seen it all during his 25 years in the Birmingham homicide division. But then they found the body of a woman suspended above the opening of the mineshaft known as the Vertical, blood dripping into the chasm below. At the bottom of that shaft, two clues - a typed manuscript and a business card, blank but for a name on the front and a single sentence on the back. Malone couldn't know that those two enigmatic items would lead him on a manhunt around the world, on the trail of a murderer and an organization of myth and legend. But he shouldn't have been surprised. The business card said it all. Limbus, Inc. How lucky do you feel?

Confusing tale or two
The very last story (barring the main story that continues throughout) was hard to follow in an audio format. I feel that the Jane/Mason/etc. Multiverse thing would have been easier to follow in print. I found myself rewinding and playing again many times during that tale.

Not that great...
I normally like the Limbus series, but this book was not particularly interesting. Most of the stories were difficult to follow and after the first couple, the narrator became distracting.

3rd time wasn't a charm...
A lackluster end to an otherwise great trilogy. The only stand out was Maberry's continued story of Sam the werewolf. That would be a great series in itself.

another home run in the series
so let me first say I'm never going to not pick up a business card again... came to these stories for Me. Maberry's contribution and more than pleasantly surprised by the other authors. shared universe compilations always work well for me and this one is perfect. my only comment would be that the change in narrator for the third book threw me off a bit, very monotone but I got used to it. I sincerely hope there's a fourth one coming

Wow, Not a Great Third Volume
The first two volume had good stories and decent narrations, not sure what happened to this one. The best story was Maberry’s, but even the best can be taken down by a slow, gravely, and unemotional narration. Hopefully, a number IV will come out and rub a new shine on the series.

Narrated by Eeyore
Unfortunately the narration- where every character sounded dumpy and slow took too much away from the stories. A few were really great, especially Jonathan Maberry- as usual. But the final one by Laird Barron was too disjointed and bizarre and didn’t end it in a satisfying way. I’ve enjoyed Barron’s stuff in the past- especially the Imago Sequence, but this was too similar and not in a good way. Just odd threads that never seem to come together, especially when the rest of the authors really seemed to do a good job of contributing something unique, but still cohesive to the theme. Like he had a “look at me!” compulsion over adding to this…..and seriously, who picked the narrator…

not bad but not the best
overall a good book, I think my only complaint is the performance could have been much better. I felt like the reader lacked a bit in his portrayal of some of the characters. I went most of a story not knowing the lead was a female.
