Publisher's Summary

Jacob seems to be anything but a model disciple. He's a trickster, liar, and selfishly ambitious man who fathers children with four women and leads a dysfunctional family rife with jealousy and backstabbing. But Jacob is also Israel, the namesake of the Old Testament community of God, chosen and blessed. As such, this sinner-saint, who limps along with the Lord, burdened by weakness and beset by problems, is the mirror image of all of us who follow Jesus. In his life we see our lives, our struggles, our failures, and most especially the God who loves us and chooses us as his own.

As we explore his bio, from his wrangling in the womb with Esau to his death as an old man in Egypt, we will learn more about ourselves and the God who is with us and for us in Jesus the Messiah.

Thanks be to God for messy disciples

First I like the fact that the Author read this book. I find it helpful to hear the heart of a book when the author reads. The life of Jacob the ups and downs brought great encouragement to my messy 30+ yrs of being a learner a disciple. A very messy journey indeed. But Jesus has never given up on me this book reminded me of the love God has for sinners for the broken and even rebels and manipulators. I would highly recommend this book to others and have. May Gods blessings be with brother Chad Bird and his family. As they grieve losses and hope In Christ for that day of reunion!!
Again thanks for writing and reading this book for us to see a biblical character very much like ourselves.

Authentic Christian Limp

This is a great book. The story of Jacob limping with God gives hope to us all. Chad Bird is relatable and does not sugar coat his own life story. He is theologically sound, entertaining, and real. As I struggle with God, I see there is hope. Though I may fight every day until my last breath, God is there, he is true to his word.

This book belongs on your shelf next to Mere Christianity, Ragamuffin Gospel, and Wild at Heart.
