SHE'S BACK!

This is one of Patricia Cornwell's best Scarpetta novels. I did not enjoy her other new series but I have read every book in her Kay Scarpetta series and loved all of them. I was so pleased that a new book in this series was coming out after what seems like such a long time. Do not miss this book because it is current without bringing Presidents or political parties into it. I do not enjoy a book where authors cannot resist the urge to preach their views on politics or religion. This story makes me think about the medical issues of American Diplomats and what I have read about it in the news. Very interesting.

well and truly done with this series

So there is a murder. But I was so put off by the endless moaning and groaning by Dr. Scarpetta about her mistreatment and the mistreatment of her niece and anyone else who is on "her side" that I finally gave up listening. Anyone who has listened to this series has all the background and repeating it is just padding the book. I was reluctant to buy this book as I have been disappointed in the last few Scarpetta books, Now I am well and truly done with this series and the author.

could have been great

well, it started out great. food for thought scary premise. then ended, abruptly, with no real answers. it felt like the author just got bored of writing and ended things. very disappointed!

I kind of hated this book

I kind of hated this book but finished the whole thing for some reason. The performance is good, as usual in the Scarpetta books. I'm not sure if I just hated the subject matter or if it was just boring but this wasn't for me. I listened to most of it on 1.5x speed just to finish it. I'd skip it if I were you.

Ho-Hum

Really quite boring. Lack of cohesion, story, and action. I still can't believe the totally lack luster ending!
Narration was okay with exception of Marino's voice. The author's physical description of Marino leads one to expect a deep, authoritative voice; but instead what we got was a voice that conjured up visions of a young boy approaching puberty.
Probably overdue time to put Scarpetta to bed (and her niece too).

UHG!

Among the most unrealistic courtroom scenes I ever encountered. Relationships are shallow and gimmicky. Predictable progression. Poorly written and edited.

RIVETING and TIMELY!!!

This Scarpetta novel is one of the best! It is scarily plausible and it captures the unsettling political climate very astutely. The characters we've grown to love are still revealing new dimensions and Cornwell writes with remarkable insight.

Not her best work

I don’t know why authors, singers, and actors think we care what their political stances are. Yes this book isn’t as blatant as the last but she still pokes a stick at gun rights activists and conservatives here. An AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle. It is an Armalite Rifle. The people involved with the Jan 6 incident were NOT conservatives. These liberal idiots are still trying to blame conservatives.
Her Kay Scarlett’s books used to be enthralling and books I couldn’t put down. It took forever to read them and it was amazing! Now it’s like she’s just trying to make a quota and rushing through the story to get the numbers out.
The story had a good idea but she spent all the time to build up to. Quick ending. One guy is responsible for the e “bad thing”.
Come on! You have done much better!!
