Publisher's Summary
Jack Ryan Jr.--along with the covert warriors of the Campus--continues to uphold his legendary father’s legacy of courage and honor in this thriller from number one New York Times bestselling author Tom Clancy.
Privately training with special forces, he’s honing his combat skills to continue his work within the Campus, hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can--even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns to become President of the United States again.
But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and personal have just become equally dangerous. A devout enemy of Jack Sr. launches a privately-funded vendetta to discredit him and connect him to a mysterious killing in his longtime ally John Clark’s past. All they have to do is catch him.
With Clark on the run, it’s up to Jack Jr. to stop a growing threat emerging in the Middle East, where a corrupt Pakistani general has entered into a deadly pact with a fanatical terrorist to procure four nuclear warheads they can use to blackmail any world power into submission--or face annihilation.

Locked On
Lou Diamond Phillips brought the story to life with his great narration. In keeping with the Tom Clancy tradition there is a lot of action and politics. I enjoyed Clark back as the head of Rainbow even if it was temporary. Thought the flight attendant on the corporate jet as a former naval medic and all round expert was great and hope Clancy expands her role in future books. Looking forward to the next book.

Five star listen
Any additional comments?
Very topical, accurate, enjoyable, believable, varied and a great story. Well, that's it in a nutshell. I do still have my doubts about Jack Ryan Jnr stories but he is probably less of the story than some of the favourites of the past. You can tell a great sequence of stories are being developed.
Highly recommended to people who like Tom Clancy books (and Mark Greaney too of course)
Lou Diamond Philips does a good job.

Typical Clancy but WAY too many characters
I lost track of some of the characters at the beginning of the novel because there were so many! However, I was able to focus on the major players about midway. This is the First book I read with Lou diamond Phillips as the narrator and he did an excellent job. I love Scott Brick but Lou is now on my list of preferred narrators!

WHAT? WHEN? WHO? WHY? WHERE?
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who likes lots of detail about the characters, location and politics; and don't mind if the story drags on and on and on.
What could Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Cut back on the characters (way to many to keep up with) the story didn't grab me and I didn't know where it was going, I didn't know who was significant to the story. I couldn't follow who were the good guys and who were the bad guys. I didn't know why some characters were introduced into the story.
What does Lou Diamond Phillips bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Lou Diamond Phillips was great...I personally think the story needs a re-write.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
...I am more than half way through the story and so far the answer would be done. I am going to finish it (it's taken awhile-because I don't like it) and unless some miracle pops out at the end I am sticking with done.P.S. If, some miracle pops out at the end I will come back and update this remark.
Any additional comments?
Often I don't give much credit to reviews that rate 1 or 2 when the majority of the ratings are 4's and 5's but next time I will read them and consider them more than I have in the past.

Great narration but story didn't hold my attention
What about Lou Diamond Phillips’s performance did you like?
He is so good that I forgot I was listening to Lou Diamond Phillips. He has great ability to change his voice from character to character.
Any additional comments?
Maybe it's just me, but I tried 3 times to finish listening to the story, and I just couldn't. The characters didn't grab my attention. I didn't feel any emotion that made me want to continue. And for me personally, there was too much information about the technical aspects. I'm sure some people would appreciate that part, but not me.

If you like talking about guns, read/listen
I like guns. I like action movies. I normally really like Tom Clancy novels because they read like an action movie in my head. Whenever I see a Tom Clancy title in an audible sale, I have to snatch it up because I know it's going to be an enjoyable 15+ hours of my life where I can multitask some menial task while I picture some awesome fight and chase scenes. But this book.... the lack of imagery and character development made it very hard to get through. I don't know how you can make characters, that I've already invested in from other titles, so uninteresting that I rather sit through traffic in "silence" instead of continue to listen to the novel. I just wish the author gave as much attention to detail as he gave the guns in this book to the the actual scenery the characters were in. You get so many details on what gun is being reloaded with what caliber bullet, and the character aiming down what modified sights, but almost nothing on what building they're running into or street their being chased down on. The book also reads like some NRA fan boy's fever dream. Women are evil. Everyone but the USA are evil or unreliable. Democrats and the media are dirty snakes, and Republicans are the saviors the nation needs.
That being said, Lou Diamond Phillips does a great job. His British accent could use work, but everything else was great.

labored, intensive, mostly dull.
Formulaic. Somehow it had just enough interest to keep my listening for the entire time, but cannot recall why now.
The romance had a nice twist, but was otherwise littered with corny dialogue and telling emotions with little feeling.
Glad that George Bush and Bush Jr. were along for the ride. Too many political undertones for my taste, but I guess we must all choose sides eventually, right?

Give me more! Loved it!
Would you consider the audio edition of Locked On to be better than the print version?
Due to a busy work schedule I enjoy audio books more because I spend most of my time in the car travelling to and from work and while Im at work.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Locked On?
I particularly loved the shoot out scene in France. Lots of action, and was on the edge of y seat through out that scene.
What does Lou Diamond Phillips bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I absolutely love his style of narration. He adds accents, different tones, different speach styles according to the characters background or origin and stays on point with his narration. When i listen to his narration i can actually picture mentally the different characters. Very enjoyable, in fact aside from being a Clancy follower, Im becoming a Lou Diamond Phillips follower. Great Narration!!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to the book over the course of a week or two.
Any additional comments?
I do not agree with some of the other ratings this book has recieved. I found it to be very enjoyable and cant wait for the next book re: The campus and The Team. Loved it!

WAY too much detail!
What disappointed you about Locked On?
Though I am usually a Clancy fan, and thought Lou Diamond Phillips is a superb narrator, this book is beyond tedious. There are too many meandering unrelated story lines and the book is so full of extraneous technical detail that it could use another round or two of heavy editing! Indeed, it feels like the authors are just showing off their technical knowledge without regard to pacing of the story.
Has Locked On turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
Have you listened to any of Lou Diamond Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but will now look for books read by him. He's one of the best narrators I've heard, and I've listened to over one hundred audible books.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Locked On?
I'd cut most of the technical information and jargon. I'd also spin off some of the story lines for another book.

From start to finish
This was a fantastic listen. My first Tom Clancy and I loved it. Lou Diamond Phillips is a superb narrator. He can not do a Welsh accent, at all. Fortunately there were only half a dozen lines requiring it (as such worth a listen for that alone)
I'm going for Dead or Alive, the book before this in the series next.
Hope this helps

Great read let down by an abrupt ending
I have been a Tom Clancy fan for many years, so when I purchased an Audible membership I thought I would give his latest book a try!
The story line is excellent with lots of action and intrigue, narrated well by Lou Diamond Philips.
Unfortunately it is let down by an ending which felt like there was something missing. As with all Clancy novels I was expecting things to come to head for a grand finale, unfortunately I was let down somewhat. The ending was not as grandiose as I would have anticipated from previous Clancy novels.
Other than the last couple of chapters I found the book an excellent read, however I would recommend listening to the previous Jack Ryan Jnr novel as this follows on chronologically form that.

Great Story
As previous reviewers, someone at Audible needs to stop Lou Phillips doing any Welsh accents, it was awful! However, the plot was good, I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down, so to speak. It is long and you don't lose the plot as you go, but you do have to concentrate on what is happening, as with most Tom Clancy books, as the plots move very quickly. Can't wait for the next one.

Excellent book, really well read!
What can I say? For those that follow the Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan universe this is another excellent installment in the already first rate series. A good, solid (and fairly accurate, if the news is to be believed) story about political in-fighting within Pakistan and the US with the usual sub-plots and excellent pace that holds it all together. Lou Diamond Phillips reads the story really and, dodgy Welsh accents aside, does a great job of bringing the characters and situations to life - in short does exactly what I'd expect but never gets in the way of the story.
Given the length of the story the end feels a little rushed but this really is only a minor gripe that doesn't detract from a really good audio book! Bring on the next one!

Another great story
As usual Tom Clancy weaves a wonderful nail biting story that will keep you up late at night spell bound with anticipation and expectancy. There is however one small fly in the ointment. Please, please, please, do not under any circumstances allow an American actor to try and do a welsh accent. It didn't work, it made me cringe, it fluctuated between a terrible Scottish accent to an even worse Irish accent, but it never even came close to being a Welsh one. Having said that is is still a great story.

Locked On
This is great list, fast pasted action. Lou Diamond Phillips really brings to live werther it be Jack Jr Be coming one of the sharp shooter or the torture of John Clark. This my favourite out of the serie so far and I Can not wait from next.

If you like Jack Ryan, you'll love his son
Although Locked On is a shorter tale than most of the old Clancy tales, the story races along at breakneck speed and across half the globe. The plot is every bit as complex as one expects from a Clancy story although I miss the incredible technical detail which is always spot accurate.
It is nice that John Clarke and Ding Chavez have moved forward into these new tales, and one feels a dynasty coming on.
Lou Diamond Philips does an excellent job as narrator and I looking forward to listening to Dead Or Alive after the holidays.
The twist at the end which will carry forward until the sequel is well worth waiting for and I actually gasped out loud in a public train compartment "Oh my God!" which drew me a few curious stares.
Impossible to put on pause.

Many Layers
Another great Tom Clancy story. Many different layers and several stories continue side by side. The small details of how they all connect wraps the whole story up nicely. I am looking forward to the in the series.
