Well this book sure starts off with a bang…

…literally. The story begins with Decker’s old partner calling him. She had left the police force after being diagnosed with early onset dementia. During a lucid moment she was able to get her service gun, call Decker and shoot herself in the head while on the phone with him. Following the funeral he visits the graves of his murdered wife and daughter. With an eidetic memory he can recall the scene as if it just happened.
Returning to DC he is introduced to his new partner Frederica. Decker does not like change and he is not exactly Mr. Congeniality when they first meet. Within minutes they receive their first case. A Federal Judge and her bodyguard were found murdered in Florida. And off they go.
Once the get to Florida things do not go as expected. They’re faced with troublesome evidence surrounding the case. Witnesses begin to disappear and those that are left are trying to keep their secrets buried. Decker doesn’t realize yet that there is a threat of danger to himself.
As always Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy do a terrific job narrating.
This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Another Great Memory Man Book!

I listened to this one all the way through in one sitting. Well worth my time. There were so many layers to this story, with lots of twists, and so many clues. It was a great story and kept me intrigued and held my attention all the way through.
A new partner is introduced, which adds even more dimension.
There was also more insight into Amos Decker. About how his gift is possibly changing, and how he copes with the changes, which affects most aspects of his present life and the people in it.
Highly recommend this book.

Language a problem

The plot, Brewer and Cassidy were excellent. I have been a long time fan of David Baldacci. However I don’t think I’m going to read any more of his books. The reason for this is that I detest the use of the F word. And it seems that he has begun to use it with relish. I don’t think it is necessary to fall for the course language to perpetuate your characters and plot. So I guess I’m done. So sad! I wish for more of the language used in your earlier books.

Author David Baldacci never disappoints...

Long Shadows is the 49th novel by David Baldacci in my Audible library so you might say I am a fan. This novel is one of my favorites. To read an outstanding review of Long Shadows read the top rated one by Audible Listener Shelley. Shelley's reviews have helped me immeasurably in finding excellent novels of the mystery/thriller genres for more than a decade. Her reviews have almost 50,000 helpful votes and she has earned each of them.

Review

The story seemed forced and filled with a lot of superfluous information. The male narration was bad.

Worst Baldacci book ever written.

Began with horrible suicide by a friend of Decker's. Story line was weak and rambling. This narrator had an irritating edge to his voice. Maybe someone else authored this book. Sort of hope Baldacci didn't write it

Disappointing. Waste of time.

Another series ruined by an author trying to appease the woke community. He completely changed the main character. The new Decker has lost most of the qualities that made him Decker. Now he is much very 2 dimensional, seeming always angry. Where did the polite Decker go? This new one discovered the "F" bomb and seems to enjoy it. Not to mention abandoning supporting characters that were his supposed "family". The author leads us on for 5 books with a possible future where Decker realizes that he can share his life with someone again. Just to to write everyone off within the first chapter.

not what was expected

The language was NOT what we expected! I don't remember Amos (or other characters) using the "F" word in the other books as much as this one.
