Publisher's Summary

"Wildly entertaining."--New York Times Book Review

From the bestselling and award-winning author comes a wickedly clever and fast-paced novel of greed, revenge, obsession—and quite possibly the perfect murder.

Simon and Vicky couldn’t seem more normal: a wealthy Chicago couple, he a respected law professor, she an advocate for domestic violence victims. A stable, if unexciting marriage. But one thing’s for sure … absolutely nothing is what it seems. The pair are far from normal, and one of them just may be a killer. When the body of a beautiful socialite is found hanging in a mansion in a nearby suburb, Simon and Vicky’s secrets begin to unravel. A secret whirlwind affair. A twenty-million-dollar trust fund about to come due. A decades-long grudge and obsession with revenge. These are just a few of the lies that make up the complex web...and they will have devastating consequences. And while both Vicky and Simon are liars, just who exactly is conning who? Part Gone Girl, part Strangers on a Train, Look Closer is a wild rollercoaster of a read that will have you questioning everything you think you know.

Disappointing

This book is hampered by some weak narration. The two female narrators are terrible, but the voice of Vicky is by far the worst. The actor voicing Simon is great, the narrator voicing Christian is meh, he sounds like a Brit attempting American accents.
The story wasn't "wickedly clever and fast paced", instead it was crass, juvenile, and mind numbing.
The story becomes tedious and boring in the second half. It didn't really hold my attention.

Astoundingly Bad

Thirteen hours of utter nonsense. Tortured plot, irritating narrators, endless repetition, purple prose, and oh, such a tidy ending.

So much going on

I finished this book, but it wasn't easy. There were so many. characters intertwined with each other that. It wasn't hard to follow exactly, but I had trouble keeping up with everyone. The narrators did an awesome job....Loved them all. I did manage to figure out who done it.... and that was a good twist in the story. The last part of the book was interesting, but overall I though it was way too long,... not in hours, just too long in general

Wasted Credit

Horrible experience. The narrator's were absolutely horrible. Long, confusing chapters with too many characters and too much going on.

This book was something else!

I read A LOT, but this book is unique. Clever, intelligent and intellectual with a plot that is wrapped up tight doesn’t begin to bestow praise enough. Bravo, David Ellis!

Ellis Takes a Wrong Turn

David Ellis is a gifted writer, and I've enjoyed a number of his books, but this one just did nothing for me. I'm a third of the way through it, and not much interested in finishing. Unsympathetic characters, bizarre plot lines.

Give this one a pass.

Too convoluted for me!

If you love books with many characters and twists that you won't see coming, then this is a top choice for you. I need a diagram charting all the people and motivations involved here just to keep things straight. If you are looking for psychological realism, look elsewhere. Overall rating: 3.5 stars rounded up.

I loved the ending!

Not perfect, but really good. After so many flat or miserable endings, this one was a refreshing twist.

Another twisty. turney fantastic story.

I love this Authors style. She has a talent for the unexpected. Each person in the story has ever changing roles... loved this book... and all her others. Don't ever stop writing!!!
