Story
Arriving in the famous English seaside resort, Albert plans only to reminisce about a childhood holiday more than 70 years in the past. While there, he will eat the town’s most famous creation—the sugary treat known as rock. But when he walks into a shop being shaken down by heavies enforcing a protection racket, all thoughts of relaxation go out the window. Instantly marked when Rex rousts the criminals, Albert must choose whether to leave the town—the sensible choice—or unravel the gang’s plans—the option containing the greatest likelihood for mayhem and danger.

Publisher's Summary
Every second generation of the Hale line dies at the hands of an unnameable monster on his 80th birthday. The current Lord Hale turns 80 this Saturday.
To protect himself, Lord Hale has invited paranormal investigation experts Tempest Michaels and Amanda Harper, plus their friends and a whole host of other guests from different fields of supernatural exploration for a birthday dinner at his mansion.
As they sit down for dinner, the lights start to dim and a moaning noise disturbs the polite conversation.
Has Lord Hale placed his faith in the right people, or has he just led them to share his doom?
Finding themselves trapped, Tempest and Amanda, with friends Big Ben and Patience, must join forces with a wizard, some scientists, occult experts, ghost chasers, witches, and other assorted idiots as they fight to make it through the night in one piece.
Could this be their final adventure? Will Tempest, finally, be proven wrong about the paranormal?

Great story.
I received a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I jumped into this book without knowing anything about the series, but I feel like this is fine as a stand-alone story. The characters are so diverse and funny and work well together. The story, I liked a lot, mystery mixed with s was little bit of Murder and mayhem and escape room gone wrong. Loved all the Scooby Doo references. Really enjoyed this story.

first time I've listened to both narrator and author and I would definitely do it again. the narrator did an amazing job with the voices. I enjoyed the story also. this is the first one of the series I have listened to and I was able to follow the story beautifully. although I'm sure listening from the beginning of the series would provide more character development.

Love this Series
I loved reading this story and series, and now I am loving hearing it. Full of action, quirky characters, and misadventure as each side (the good and the bad) continue to war it out and come out on top, only to have the other side regain control once more. This series, and author are favorites of mine. If you haven't started at the beginning of the series, I recommend that you do to know the story on all the characters and their missions in life. If you don't want to, you'll still enjoy this episode and all the others. The actress/reader does a fantastic job with the different voices, something that is a must for me if I am to listen to a book. Enjoy!

Lots of fun!
At this point I've only read book 4 and this one. This one was much more fun than book 4, and had a different feeling to it. Of course, series do evolve as they go on, but I really feel the difference to this was the narrator and the voice. This was a story told form Harper's point of view, and thus was narrated by a female (who did a great job by the way). I enjoyed book 4 but I really liked this one. In addition, this book was funnier, had more details.
What I find strange is that the illustrations on the early books--kind of cartoonish and a kind of bland matte-like colour scheme--do not at all match the covers for the books in kindle format, or this audio cover. Certainly this cover style matches a LOT better, but they don't match one another, or match exactly how the stories feel to me.
Off to listen to the first books in kindle version with text-to-speech since I cannot read them visually.
I was going to comment in my review (with a spoiler alert) that this had the feeling of an episode of Scooby Doo, yet that actually came up on the book itself so I feel I can say it without the warning.
I received a free copy of this book from the author.

I really enjoyed this book, it is a novel length Scooby Doo adventure (Not a criticism I love Scooby Doo) with real murders, It has a creepy house, a monster and bunch of crooks, a gang of paranormal investigators and the classic trap at the end that always works so well. It flows easily and can be read as a standalone, although this is book 13 and starting at book one would save you learning the characters Very good narration. it was smooth and easy to listen too. Perhaps a little weak on some of the dialogue but overall a fun read. Recommended
