It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his 18th year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Publisher's Summary
From the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Darkest Minds comes a high-octane story of power, destiny and redemption. A lifetime ago, Lore Perseous left behind the brutal, opulent world of the Agon families - ancient Greek bloodlines that participate in a merciless game every seven years. A game that is about to begin again....
For centuries, Zeus has punished the gods with a game called the Agon, which turns them mortal for one week and at the mercy of being hunted by those with godly ambitions. Only a handful of the original Greek gods remain, the rest replaced by the mortals who killed them and ascended.
After her family's sadistic murder by a rival bloodline, Lore escapes and vows to repay her parents' sacrifice by doing one thing - surviving. For seven years, she has pushed back dark thoughts of revenge against the man responsible for their murder, a man by the name of Wrath who has attained unimaginable power. Except for one week, every seven years. A week that is fast approaching....
When Lore comes home on the first night of the Agon to find Athena gravely wounded on her doorstep, the goddess offers her an alliance; they have a mutual enemy, after all. But as the world trembles under the force of Wrath - a god with the power to destroy all of humanity - will Lore's decision to bind her fate with Athena's come back to haunt her?

A cool plot with a unique setting
The world has a a nice setup, the characters are surprisingly flushed out, would've like more mythical creatures but overall a pretty fun read/listen, narrator is pretty good

Best book I have read in a while
I won’t spoil the plot here, the book is amazing! It has a wonderful storyline and well made characters, I don’t generally leave many reviews, however I had to with this one! Thoroughly recommend it!

Great concept, poorly executed
Whilst the underlying concept is a novel and intelligent twist on the Greek mythology stories I loved as a child, unfortunately the Woke brigade have got their foot in here and made it seriously annoying.
Further, the writing style is so clichéd, it seems to have been written by a teenager rather than about one. I lost count of the number of times the lead character, Lore "...felt her throat tighten", "...her heart thump", "...her vision darken" and "...sensed (whatever) from the depths of her soul."
I really struggle to reconcile this as a best-seller as the synopsis claimed.
The narrator does her best but poor Fryda is ultimately let down by the substandard text.

Disappointing story, very good narration!
I'm so sad for this book. It didn't live up to its hype for me mostly because there was zero character development and too much plot to truly enjoy it. The Greek Pantheon is an oversaturated topic and unfortunately, once again, a mediocre book is hailed as a YA hit.
I didn't connect with anyone and the main heroine had a very flat voice. There was too much detail and fluff for no apparent reason. The book had only an original premise and nothing more.
The narration was decent though and if it wasn't for the voice actor, I wouldn't be able to finish this one.

Different take on the Greek gods
Really enjoyed the fresh take on gods and goddesses - the only reservation I have is that the romantic elements were so cheesy, and that kind of spoiled a feisty female lead.

tedious
i very rarely give up on a book, and I really tried with this, but i made it to chapter 12 and then decided I just didn't care about anyone in it and found the plot too waffley to hold my attention. maybe it picks up but I really didn't feel it was worth investing any more of my time into.

Lore
One of my favourite audiobooks purchased so far - Fryda Wolff was the perfect choice of narrator and I look forward to reading more Alexandra Bracken in the future.
It is quite lengthy and there are many characters and details to keep in mind as the story progresses but the ending pays off for the patience - a good of character development transpires by the culmination for several of the key characters.
My only issue was with Lores age, which is 17 at the begining of this Agon, and I can't help but feel it would have been that much better if she had been 24.

Started great, the was a let down
I was really loving this book right up till the two third’s point where something was revealed and everything because very two dimensional. It was really disappointing. The climax also felt very cringey - people stood around and did dialogue where realistically they would not have, while some characters just didn’t do anything for bits when they really should have taken action instead of waiting for their turn to speak.
I was really loving this book until I wasn’t, which was a shame. I would probably read it again, but don’t know if I would do so more than once (I want to give it the benefit of a physical book read as I do better with that medium). I would recommend, but caution to expect the second half of the book in particular to feel rough around the edges and a bit messy.

back and forth
Its not that I hate flashbacks, they are a good way to engage the readers and build depth to a character- however it was really over done in this book. it seemed like it was constantly back and forth, which made me lose interest. the performance of the audio book was great however, her voice was very calming, but portrayed the characters emotions well.

loved the narration it kept me going when parts of the story felt clunky.
loved the general concepts of the story though I was frustrated with how forced some of the storylines were.

Hard start
Found it difficult to get into at the start. I felt that it was hard to understand what was happening and to follow along. I stuck at it and it wasn't a bad story in the end.
