Publisher's Summary

Four years after escaping her abusive ex-husband, Kim finally believes she's in control of her life and her emotions and she's determined to never risk either again with a man. She has a great home, a job as a security specialist which she loves, and Jake for a best friend. But things are a tad lonely in the sex department, so she decides to embark on a no-strings-affair with one of her hot co-workers. And who better to help her remember how to lure a man than her best friend?

Jake has wanted Kim from the moment he first saw her, but four years ago, she was too young and too damaged. So he kept her close and he kept her safe, offering her a job in his security company and the training to feel safe again, and he bided his time. But now, after the long wait, if she imagines he's going to stand by while she seduces some other guy.... Never going to happen.

Ok, but too much rambling on

Was challenging in many parts for this book to keep my attention. the story line could be good but just not executed well.

Disappointed

I loved the story but I hated how the female character would reference to herself in the 3rd party way.

Wait...what?

I feel like Kim kind of got the shitty end of the stick a lot of the time...her whole problem was that she had been controlled in her previous marriage and she’s clearly been traumatized by it. Instead of trying to help her through this and assuring her he won’t do that, Jake manipulates, cajoles, and downright guilts her into being with him. THEN her father, who had essentially abandoned her, doesn’t really apologize or even see if she’s okay, just tells her she should be with Jake and to make sure he thinks he’s in control. What the actual hell?? I will not be reading any more by this author.

The narrator was decent - I don’t want my low review to reflect her performance. It’s purely because of the characters and plot.

Ok book ruined by dreadful narration

Story was a bit two dimensional.. not great but the overwhelming kiss of death was supplied by the narrator.
I was initially delighted that the narrator was a native uk English speaker but within 5 minutes had changed my mind.
Whilst the Scot’s and Yorkshire accents were fair the worst point was the narrator’s inability to pronounce words properly, e. g. FLASH and THE .
The delivery of the story also failed due to unnatural emphasis on wrong words in the sentence.
I appreciate the free books in the plus catalogue, but I am so thankful I didn’t have to waste a credit on this.

Made it to chapter 7 (Spoiler Alert)

I don't know what to say. The story line wasn't that bad but then it got to the part where they had sex without a condom and there was talk about how she can't be/get pregnant bla bla.... right, what even is plan B right?

The Narrator wasn't as annoying as other people have said but... it was annoying at times.

If you like listening to books that have sex scenes almost immediately then this is it...

Fab story

Love the story but it is spoilt by the narrator pronouncing words in a way that is ridiculous
Chagrined - shargrined
Flashed - flarshed
Assets - arsets

It’s very off putting, forced pronunciation sounds silly

The voice

I couldn’t get past the first few minutes of this story, sorry but the voice of the girl reading it was virtually unbearable . Nerve grinding. Can’t comment on story or overall content, just couldn’t stand that voice.

ok story poor narration

the story was ok though a little predictable but the narration was pretty poor. at one stage in the middle she had a cold and it was nearly impossible to tell the characters apart.

spoiler warning

soooooo the steamier bits of the book i had no problem with, buthaving been through the whole abusive ex husband thing there were some questionable moments.

for instance, during Jake and Kim's tender "i love you, but" moment, Jakes reaction would have been a huge red flag and i wish it could have been approached differently given Kims backstory.

And they all lived happily ever after?

a good listen with a predictable end but no worse for that.its a security company and the two main characters don't have handcuffs
