Publisher's Summary

A lost colony planet, a perplexing murder, and a dogged homicide cop in this Audible Original story from best-selling author Larry Correia.

When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

A hundred years later, Five Points has grown into a city of corruption and violence. With powerful corporations ruling the surface domes and criminal syndicates running the caverns below, murder is just the cost of doing business.

So when a Special Magistrate is found dissolving in a protein vat, it barely registers - until DCI Lutero Cade, the last honest cop in Five Points, catches the case. What he finds could threaten the colony’s very existence.

Or, at the very least, Cade himself.

Superb performance

It seems like Larry Correia wrote this to play to Oliver Wyman's strengths. The story hooked me immediately, and has echoes of Niven's known-space unfortunate colonies, and The Expanse's cynical belter cops.

Good world-building and believable characters. I hope there's more where LPH came from.

exciting look in to a new world

Gritty pulp detective goodness. The world building in this short story has me wanting and hoping for more! Strong characters and a tight on point plot. Very much enjoyed it and recommend. Think Borderlands meets Mass Effect with a splash of The Expanse for good measure and you're there.

Really great! Gritty cop show meets lost in space. Really excited for Correia to further develop this universe.
Oliver Wyman continues to prove he's the man who can.

Great Story - Intriguing beginning

This short story creates a world I would like to learn more about. It teases at a deeper mystery that could be explored in the future. I hope the author takes the time to explore it further.

I liked the story, but....

The story was great. It left me wanting to know more. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find more that is an actual follow-up to issues in the book. I'll keep looking. Hopefully I'll find something...eventually.

But the narrator was absolutely awful! The pronunciations were fine...as was the tone of voice. However, he seems to have a tic that causes him to exhale forcefully through his nose at the end of most sentences. It is entirely off-putting, distracting and kept me from concentrating on the story and really getting into it. I pushed through and listened to the book all in one day because the thought of having to listen to that sound the next day was intolerable.

I'm honestly not trying to be mean, but I thought that it was worth bringing to someone's attention since I will be actively avoiding any books where he is the primary narrator. It was just that annoying.

Thoroughly entertaining

Larry Correia takes his talents and melds Sci-fi with old fashioned murder mystery. A really fun listen. Oliver Wyman rocks as a narrator.

A found little gem of a story

Those of you who like noire mysteries — either of the Earthly or science fiction variety — will love this story. The Lost Planet is well thought out and described and the main character, a homicide cop, is straight out of the best hard-boiled detective fiction. I hope this is the beginning of a series! Score this story — if you know what’s good for you!

Quick and enjoyable

Despite it's short length this is a great little story that manages to flesh out the setting and deliver an enjoyable and action-packed murder-mystery tale. I see there's another book in this setting, and I'll definitely be checking it out based on this.

Part Malta's Falcon part Solent Green

Loved 'Gun Runner' but while this is listed as part of the same world its a very different hero. A ard bitten cop who does the right thing even amongst an indifferent corrupt system. Sam Spade with a bionic arm. looking forward to the sequel.

So good it left me wanting more.

This shirt sci-fi story left me frustrated that it isn't longer. I enjoyed it so much and got into the story to such an extent that I was a bit annoyed when it was finished. I sure hope it gets picked up for a follow up.

I'm a huge Correia fan since recently reading the Forgotten Warrior series ( now one of my all time favourite fantasy series), so I was interested to see what he would do with a sci-fi story... I was not disappointed.

The story takes place on a distant planet colony that has been cut off from the rest of humanity for decades due to an unforseen mishap. A detective is called to investigate a murder in the poorest sector of the colony and uncovers a link that leads him to look at the highest ruling classes and opens some questions about the circumstances of how they came to end up on this distant planet.

In truth, the plot isn't exactly ground breaking or radical in any way, but it's execution is what puts it ahead of the competition. The dialogue is top notch and the main character is nicely fleshed out along the way.

just a fun read/listen.

The narrator is perfect for this book. He pulls of the hard-boiled, gritty detective with baggage extremely well. First class performance.

A great short story

I absolutely loved this short story, there is no obvious link to the main series so you don't feel like you are being plopped in the middle of something. Fantastic narration by Oliver wyman. Hope to see more of this sub series.

An interesting new world.

Interesting context and characters. A good narration, with the lead reminiscent of an old school noir detective. I'd love to see more.

Fun listening, good world building, give it a go!

Aside from the slightly forced voice performances (nothing unforgivable, but noticeable for the first 15 mins) I recommend this audio book as a fun escapist listen.

Smart world building and a great cliff hanger - looking forward to future instalments
