When a nearly naked woman crashes into his arms, Paul, the new Earl of Latterly, knows he's left his monk-like world behind. Raised apart from females by his misogynist father, Paul hardly knows how to speak with the delightful girl who's dashed out of the dance hall. Story
Michael McCann has a gentle way with women, and Timona Calverson is no exception, despite her ragged clothes. Though Timona may be no more than a mysterious woman, Michael is determined to keep her from harm, if only for one night. Timona can't bring herself to tell him who she really is - or that her rich family will pay handsomely for her return. She knows very little about Michael McCann, except that he is good enough to give his last cup of tea to a stranger, and compassionate enough to own the ugliest dog on earth.

Strangers meet, romance blossoms. But there's a test...A classic fairytale retold. Good English families all have a house in the country with a deer park, a trout stream, and an army of gardeners. They should have a son and if it can be managed, he should be handsome. Cleverness isn't important. Daughters in limited quantities are fine so long as they are pretty. Bastards are inconvenient and best ignored. It's not a big problem, unless you are one. Unfortunately, Sophy is.

Okay
This book is okay. The author makes the occasional mistake of over explaining things, as though we won’t understand something if she doesn’t explain it to us. Also, some scenes go on too long. Luckily, those are fixed with speeding up the narration and skipping forward. The love scene is awkward, and I would have enjoyed the book much better without it and all the sexual innuendo. It’s not a book I’ll listen to again, but decent enough for a couple of evening’s entertainment. Narration was fine if somewhat confused and inconsistent between British and southern accents.

I kept waiting for it to get good
I wanted to like it. I like the concept and the characters. The romance fell flat. Not enough romantic scenes for a book of this variety. The one full romance scene was poorly written and not exciting at all. The performance was ok, but no matter how good a narrator is you can’t fix bad writing. Again I really liked the concept but not all the characters had enough development. This reads like a first draft with lots of missing revision. It’s odd to have a poorly written book about a skillful writer. Oh well.

FLAT.
I listened to this book.because I had enjoyed another of the author’s books and because it was in the plus catalog. It was a mistake. Gideon sounded (literally and figuratively) like a pompous bore and had no real personality. There was no real emotion to explain their attraction. There may have been more to interest me in the brief mentions of her parents’ relationship. As a matter of fact, I was more interested in several of the other characters.

Wonderful Mystery Romance
In the words of LM Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables) "Too much romance is worse than too little.". This story has just the right amount, and that is to be greatly applauded. I usually have a storyline figured out, but this one kept me misdirected until just before it was revealed. Bravo!!!!

A lovely romance
Ok so it follows the traditional style of the genre but it had a few thrilling moments added in and they were believable. That's pretty much all I want in a romance. First that it's got a good storyline and that it's believable, second, it's not soppy or has too much sex, and thirdly it has a little humour thrown in. Simple, but enjoyable!
