Publisher's Summary

“Dishy, warm, and entertaining.”—Kirkus Reviews

The beloved Black pop culture icon, entrepreneur, Hollywood actress, and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star bares her life in this frank, funny, and fearless memoir about life, love, and the pursuit of true happiness.

Love Me as I Am is Garcelle Beauvais’ smart, inspiring, and raw memoir—an entertaining and unforgettable emotional roller-coaster ride that moves from her early childhood years in Haiti to her adolescence in Boston; from her heady days as a young model in New York—her first taste of real freedom—to Los Angeles and the many ups, downs, and then more ups, both personal and professional, she experienced in her three-decade acting career, including her massive fame as a star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Throughout her life, Beauvais has suffered from an emotional battle between her wild, rebellious nature and her desire to be a “good girl”. No matter how many cover stories she earned, “Most Beautiful” lists, or coveted roles in iconic series such as The Jamie Foxx Show and NYPD Blue, Beauvais could not cure herself of her “disease to please” or learn to put herself first. She also had to learn how to unapologetically put herself first. In Love Me as I Am, she brings together the voices of both the good girl and the rebel to deliver an unflinching examination of her successes and ongoing challenges as a mother, wife, daughter, sibling, and friend.

Beauvais fearlessly talks about how she boldly embraced her sexuality in her 40s, and her determination to break free of the stereotypes that define and limit African American women in popular culture. Most importantly, she reveals how finally putting herself first led to better relationships with her three sons and even her ex-husband. Beauvais dishes, too—offering juicy behind-the-scenes stories from movie sets, red carpet events, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Love Me as I Am is an unflinching look at one woman’s extraordinary journey to create a new and more exciting life—and to become the woman she was meant to be.

3.5 stars!

Overall I enjoyed this book. I’ve always been a fan of Garcelle so I was looking forward to her story especially being Haitian myself. There were parts that she dragged on but it was minimal and I find this in the other memoirs I’ve read. Her story was not in chronological order but still easy to follow. She was authentic honest, had some juicy parts and shared her struggle. Enjoyable read!

Love me as I am

This book was ok. Seems like she just gave an overview of her life only.

That’s My Garcelle For You!

What an incredible woman! This book is compelling, inspiring and very interesting! From her humble beginnings in Haiti, to dealing with a number of tough life issues to her height of stardom in the modeling world and Hollywood, Garcelle keeps it 100% real, which is why she was a hugely successful and loved co host on The Real. You will not be disappointed in this book, as she makes a great author, too. Would love to meet her one day and thank her for writing this! Marie, ATL, GA

love Garcelle she's poetic with her words, wise beyond her years and timeless beauty. This book is an inside of who she is, which makes me see how truly incredible this human really is.

Garcelle is the only REAL housewife

I am grateful to hear Garcelle tell her story, and even more grateful to live in LA where maybe I'll get to tell her myself one day. Garcelle, come hang out in Malibu!

As a female attorney and professor who worked many years to get where I am, I am inspired by Garcelle's ability to share her voice in an impactful way. Her humble self-reflection to her life's journey is refreshing in this age of blame and projection.

I truly hope Bravo continues to scout REAL women like Garcelle for the franchises. She brings a lot to the table among these women most of whom can't hold a candle to her wit and kindness, Keep being you Garcelle, you really speak to those of us who are listening.

Slow and not that into it

I LOVE Garcelle and have loved her since The Jaime Foxx Show but this book fell short. Her voice was monotonous throughout and the story wasn’t all that interesting. It had its moments but not great. At some point it felt like an ad for her next man.

Good, but not the narration.

The story is good and I enjoyed it but the narration is not. Garcelle reads the book as if she has no idea what she is saying. Breaths and pauses in all the wrong places. It's quite off-putting, but the quality of the story itself was worth it.

She’s more likeable on tv than on writing

The story starts well but as it goes by it seems like she starts riding a high horse of know-it-all-ism, blowing her own trumpet, and never being wrong. I’m not clear from the book if it’s a matter of not having more depth or not wanting to access it and share it with us. I definitely prefer seeing her on tv. I guess her preachiness is edited out

Snooze

Immensely disappointing and more boring than interesting. So much so that I didn’t bother to finish it.
