Publisher's Summary

Against all odds, Adirah Messa has been accepted to Billet University, a prestigious institution founded in the 1800s for people of color. Determined to excel, she arrives at the university intent on minimizing distraction and focusing on her studies. That goal is soon interrupted when she is noticed by members of the "in" crowd, who invite her to the most popular frat party on campus.

Adirah finds herself smitten with someone of another race and is taken on a ride she can never return from. Unbeknownst to her, Adirah's newfound love is not only a master seducer; he is also one of the most powerful figures in the underworld of Vampirism. Tangled up in a web of love, Adirah becomes involved in her lover's lifestyle in more ways than one.

Before she knows it, Adirah becomes Queen to his tribe. Is she prepared to accept all the responsibility that entails? When a rival clan targets Adirah and her identity is exposed, she must make some quick and serious decisions. Will she react in time, or is it already too late?

AMAZING!

I don't do fantasy books or vampire books but THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! A Black Vampire Love Story it was. I'm ready for part two and iiKane, the narrator, did the dang thing. I hope she reads part 2. I will continue to support this author.

Rape is not sexy

This was all around rubbish. The fact that the author tried to endear us to rapist is gross, the fact that the heroine goes from a strong optimistic woman to a rag doll is beyond disappointing. It had its moments but not enough for me to continue with this series or like the leads. To be honest the three minor characters should have been the leads.

Lame

This has zero character development. It jumps from past to present to future without any warnings so you’re left trying to figure out what’s happening way too often. The narrator does a good job bringing life to inadequate characters. The storyline is slow and lack luster most of the time. It’s basically Twilight. The ending was so blunt and confusing I actually had to rewind to make sure I didn’t accidentally jump ahead or miss something. Nope. It just jumps to the end at a climax and basically says “and they lived happily every after.” So lame.

I wanted to love it....

I push through finishing this book. The narration wasn't great and I found myself rolling my eyes at the main character a lot! The narration of Dera, Lena and Villa were so high pitched and annoying. i wonder if I read the book if it would be better but I'm done with this series. I wouldn't reccomend this one.....

horrible

It starts out with a rape scene then moves into the need for the rapist to have a queen so she can serve him of course she won't be as strong as him. insert eye roll. So they take a strong black woman and what want her to serve a man? The narrator was also the most annoying I've had the displeasure of listening to and I've heard hundreds of books.

My sexy vampire

Well I am a twilight fan. This was nothing like twilight. It was a good vampire book. I did like how protective he was with adere. Her roommate was a nut, she was funny. Overall I think it was okay. I will buy book two.

Meh

Okay so I’m not a big fan of black stories that HAVE to revolve around RACISM AND SLAVERY especially if they are romances. I find it very hard to go along with the pro black character stereotype while interesting it was weird to have a romance forming around two clans having a race war. Also didn’t even realize the FML was black because of the cover for this audiobook doesn’t you a Kenyan women looks like a white women with a weird grey filter to look black and her straight black hair doesn’t help when the description in book says she wears her natural hair under her head wraps etc. the second book cover didn’t make it better.
Seems like in this word the vampires are the usual kill their prey type. What ever that’s fine but the male needs want in his Queen was confusing like he wanted a girl to fall for his charms than gets annoyed when the FML shows very little interest or annoyed by him.
Also the time line is very jumbled with the past, present and back to the past thing. You get lost and than you realize these characters are standing around or sitting in the middle of conversations spacing out in a daze which would be weird.
The instalove at chapter 7 made me pause to write this review because in the span of I guess a few days after she nearly died in a fire... she wakes up healed and and go from scared he assaulted her to letting him take her clothes off and take her. Which is confusing because she spent 5 chapters wanting to avoid him and show she was attracted but not ready to drop her panties.
I’ll probably end up finishing to just to complete the story this is just a warning if you don’t wanna start a story and be disappointed.
