A man who lost his future...

Macon Miles knows what it means to make sacrifices for his country. Married to his high school sweetheart, he once had a promising future in the military and everything seemed complete. All that changed when a routine patrol in Afghanistan turned into a nightmare. When the dust settled, Macon had lost his career, his wife, and his leg. Lost and alone, his only comfort comes from his newfound love of cooking. When his estranged brother, Adam, offers him a new home and a chance to work at a friend's restaurant in Dallas, it's an offer he can't refuse.

A woman searching for the past...

Allyson Jones made her foster mother a deathbed promise. She would find out what really happened to Ronnie in Afghanistan. Ally doesn't believe the army's reports about her foster brother's death, and she knows only one man can tell her what really happened - Macon Miles. Following him to Dallas, she gets a job working alongside him at Top, Sean Taggart's decadent new restaurant. She is sure Macon is hiding something about Ronnie's death, and she'll do whatever it takes to unravel the mystery.

When circumstances force Macon and Ally together, their chemistry is hotter than any dish at Top. But when Ally's deception is exposed and the truth about Ronnie's death is revealed, will they be able to reclaim the love they've lost?

A favorite series!

I enjoyed reading this book but even more listening to it. The narration was excellent. This series is a favorite of mine and I've been pleased to add the audio versions as they've become available. I'm totally captivated by all of the characters in the series.

Narrator threw me off

I mean no offense to the narrator but after going from Ryan to this guy it kinda wrecked the story for me he wasn’t terrible but he wasn’t super great.

An amazing military romance

This has a tragic story, but so very real life. It’s based on what so many of our wounded heroes face when they return home. I wouldn’t really consider it a branch off series, since it has all the characters from the main series. It does contain a very happily ever after. Greenfield is a good narrator, but bring back Ryan West.

Changed narrator

It’s hard to go from listening to Ryan West for 14 books to someone new. He’s a master at accents and captured the personalities of the characters perfectly. This book makes the MT team sound hokie. I couldn’t finish it. I’ll try to read it instead.

Best intro into the D/S scene

Love how Lexi handles the complexities of survivor's guilt and Allison's introduction into the D/S world. Very happy for this continued series into the minor characters found within Tagget & McKay's family associates.

Love the story the narrator's OK

I really like the series. Not a big fan of this narrator. Sebastian and York does a better job of narrating. He does a couple the other books in the series. They are fantastic.

Dense, intense, and satisfying

The author has explored a number of very interesting personalities in this volume, showing that she has a very clear understanding of human motivations and how multiple types of abandonment, the withdrawal of love, betrayal, and PTSD can effect and warp those motivations. This novel has been very skillfully written, and is well worth you time and attention.

New Narrator New Levels of Spice

I love this book. It's one of my favorites in the Masters and Mercenaries series. I read some reviews before getting the audiobook and I was worried about there being a different narrator. However, I think the narrator really brought Macon Miles to life. Lance Greenfield did amazing with portraying the levels of emotions in intense AND spicy scenes, in my opinion better than Ryan West (who is spectacular in his ways too).

Change in Narrator

It’s hard to go from listening to Ryan West for so many of these books in the series to someone new. He’s a master at accents and captured the personalities of the characters perfectly. This book makes the MT team sound fake. I would recommend redoing with West if possible. Definitely go back to West for other upcoming books with MT!

Wow

Loved this story of what started out with a need for answers turns into love. A funny way the universe works.
Narration was awesome too.
