Publisher's Summary

Mack's Bar is one of those nice, friendly places where everybody knows your name. That's great when someone's buying you a round, but not so hot when you find yourself atop a list of murder suspects - with your fingerprints on the bloody knife!

Mackenzie "Mack" Dalton is a Milwaukee bar owner with a nose for trouble - literally. A neurological glitch has left her with extra-perceptive senses. So when she stumbles upon a dead body in the alley behind the bar - the same spot where her own father was shot eight months earlier - she can tell right away there's something fishy in the air.

The lead detective thinks there's a link between the two deaths, and he'll need Mack's help to sniff out the murderer amid the crowd of eccentric regulars. But when all the evidence points to her as the most likely culprit, it could be an early last call for Mack - and celebratory cocktails for a killer.

local Story

this book was a fun story to listen to since I live in Milwaukee the author set the mystery in Milwaukee Wisconsin so any of the local references I would be able to recognize storyline with somewhat predictable but it was still a fun book to listen to and I loved Duncan's accent.

interesting and the reader is very good

I was almost put off by negative reviews.
And I did figure out the plot very early on. But i like this series. It's a good story telling, building the characters and bringing out their personalities. I like the reader. She's unique.

Great mystery with very realistic twists and turns

The narrator was much better than I expected having listened to the sample, no offense intended! The book itself is well written and does not drag on. It is a compelling read, I found myself getting up a bit early so I could listen before work!

I picked this book/series because of the narrator

And I wasn't disappointed! Nicole Poole made listening to an experience. You can follow the dialogs very easy because of the different voices for every person!

I love mysteries and this one has not a boring moment. I intend to continue with this series!

wonderful!

I absolutely love how the author augments the descriptions with Mack's synesthetic experiences. It is wonderfully clever and really brings new life to those descriptions and scenes. It does the same with the characters, it is brilliant!

meh

This is an ok book but I didn't connect to the characters which made it difficult for me to care what happened in the story. I begin skipping ahead when the dialogue became too wordy. I probably won't get the next one.

Too Long

I started out liking this book but 4 hours into it I was done. The story could have wrapped up by then but it went on and on.
