Publisher's Summary

Get Mad: The Complete Series.

Special edition bundle. Three books. Hours and hours of fun, apocalyptic LitRPG, featuring mad scientist powers, along with plenty of laughs. Oh, and killer aliens. Lots of 'em.

I was in my garage, when the space elves addressed the whole world.

They didn't call themselves space elves, of course. Most humans struggled to pronounce Khjurhnalva, so we opted for the easier version. They had a message for us: Forces that had eradicated their species' males were now heading for Earth.

Hungry for our resources, the alien hordes annihilate everything that stands in their way. The space elves offered us access to the System and asked for very little in return. After all, cooperation was vital to the survival of both our species.

I, Mathew Alexander Dunphy, know all of the above is bullshit. I saw the truth with my own eyes and heard it from their beautiful, delicate, deceitful mouths. No one believes me, though. They call me mad.

What reason could the space elves have to lie?

A planet-wide survival reality show? Ridiculous.

The writer is super Thirsty

I'll make this short. The first book was excellent until the love interest showed up then it became more about who is with who and lust every other sentence. I don't hate love interests just how it was executed in this story.

Every moment is a lame sex joke. Even in the middle of plot being explained. And it's mopy and the hero nerfes himself Bec too much power is bad. If you want the same type of story listen to dungeon crawler carl, it's done waaaaay better then this book.

hmn

the story lagged a bit for me. there really was not a lot of tension that they were going to do the goal or not. I did not get invested in the characters .

Lackluster.

It’s a boring monotonous version of dungeon crawler Carl. It had some imaginative possibilities that just didn’t take off. I’m halfway through the 2nd book. I’ve fallen asleep and spaced off several times while listening and just can’t make myself rewind to pick up where I left off.

The narrator does a decent job until the commercial voices. Those voices are way over the top. Misses the mark for it being humorous and it’s just annoying.

Honestly I think i would rather just listen to a series I’ve already finished listening to than continue with this.

Creative AF

This was pretty fun. The different powers and upgrades were cool as well. I really liked the videogame and movie references and name drops.

One of the best listens I've had!

Gary Furlong was amazing to listen to, being able to recognize each character by tone and the way he talks is awesome! The story was extremely entertaining and I really hope there's more!

slow read at first

honestly when it first started I was like "ehhh I'm not really feeling it" then, it amped up and I was like "f#@$ yeah let's go this is awesome!!" honestly it starts off slow but it's well worth listening to and I'm sure you'll like it.

good fun

this was a fun series, at times they went into so much detail on the modifications that it was hard to keep them straight.... and I still don't know what heelies are, sounded something like inline skates but they didn't really give it a good description.... all and all good lighthearted fun and I'll be there for the next one

Thoroughly enjoyable listen

Only quibble is there aren’t any more books out yet. And if covid gave the author time for us to get this… well every bad thing must have a good thing…. Look forward to reading more from the author.

Jeez.

Usually dont write reviews but this was a annoying enough to warn others. Its not a DNF but almost. Feels like the author had no idea where to go with this book. I dont know which book came first. Dungeon crawler carl or this, but it feels like the author read DCC and thought 'i can do it better'..
He couldnt. Its a weak story. Huge plot holes and way to many directions the author doesnt follow up. And the jokes are just annoying. These intergalactic commercial breaks that do nothing for the story and are just as annoying as a tv commercial break..
Jeez im glad it was 3 for 1 but sad at the same time cause its more time wasted.
Just read DCC instead.

Lackluster experience, honest review.

I felt neither positively or negatively about this series it was just meh! more of the same really, not really a litrpg but instead some wierd bastardisation of eastern cultivation novels with a lettered ranking system and upgrading super powers with no real stats or levelling, it then tried to become a base building simulator from book 2 onwards but this fell flat and made the adventure tedious or lack thereof, it tried to be funny but failed everytime did not find any of it humourous despite that being a tag, our protagonist and his crew all have awesome powers but are absolute melts when it comes to their use and potential, it's almost as if the author wanted the protagonist to be overpowered but couldn't commit in the end, I can't say it is terrible but just well... vanilla the book lacks direction when it come to being a genre it's a massive jumble of them fisted into what could have been a good story, author needs to pick a lane and stick with it.

narrator was good but often mixes the characters up in the narration, not the voices but the names, all in all though good performance, if you want a book that does this genre justice hit up Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Solid and entertaining apocalypse scifi

These three books together make for a good fun read, using decent character development in adverse conditions to keep attention.

I also liked that it is also less of a mindless power fantasy and focuses more on the people behind the powers.

Glad it was not as goofy and over the top as I feared and not too heavy on the LitRPG elements. The good writing and British setting and narrator keeps grounded in reality.

This three in one deal makes it all into a fun complete story with a decent conclusion.

I enjoyed the story plot and was itching for more when I got to the end of the third book.
The narration is very good and easy to differentiate the different characters.

Wacky fun !

Loved this. With hints of all sorts of scifi and fantasy just suspense disbelief and go with the flow. Yes it's totally ridiculous but that's part of the fun. I like the writing style and the narrator has brought the characters to life beautifully.

I enjoyed it.

Worth a listen? yeh
It's alright. if you enjoyed this you will really love Dungeon Crawler Carl, scratched that litrpg itch between matt dinneman books, but this series is nice easy listening and stands on its own merits.

How does it balance?
they're not invincible and bad stuff happens.
This series doesn't stand up to heavy analysis. but that's not why your interested in this book so shush.

I really liked that it wasn't a crazy sex obsessed power trip like most lit rpgs are falling into.
That said the power scaling of the characters at times feels like they scale too fast. one fight a elite is a big battle, the very next chapter they are slaughtering multiple in one hit KO's and hunting emperors. They're definitely rushing and that makes sense in the story line, but it still feels a bit forced at times.

it shard to write fight scenes and and hard to write tragedy. book is top 20% of lit rpg books.

if you liked this listen to Dungeon Crawler Carl
