Publisher's Summary

Nearly everything in Gregory’s life had changed by the end of his first year at the academy. Alone at the start of his novice year, he’d gotten engaged to Yukiko Warlin and found a friend in Jenn Bean by the time the annual tournament was over.

The three of them went on to join Aether’s Guard, bringing the name of the nearly dead clan back to life. Elder Lightshield, the leader of Aether’s Guard, gave them his support and backing and Magus Dia guided them. Their training with Armsmaster Gin continued, offering a safe haven and helping to shield them from the worst tribulations that academy life could bring.

Nothing is perfect, though. Gregory, Yukiko, and Jenn had also made enemies, and faced resentment and anger from the Eternal Flame clan more than once. Weathering the troubles that Nick Shun and his friends tried to bring down on them, the three magi rose to ever greater heights.

Gregory’s second tournament included the unexpected, but welcome, arrival of Carmichael Pettit, as well as a mysterious bet between Jenn and Yukiko. At the end of the tournament, Jenn had bested Yukiko and Gregory, and the three of them held three of the top four places.

With both of their families in attendance, Gregory and Yukiko wed after the tournament. The newlywed couple would face the academy and the world as one, and with their friends and their clan, they would strive to be at the pinnacle of their class once more.

This book contains some adult themes.

What happened?!?

This book fell off! I enjoyed the first two books now all I can say is the author must have wanted to push another book out and explain to us that this is a harem story.
“Spoilers”
Literally 1/3 was about Jen coming to be his wife. Then more talking and getting stronger.
I love OP characters, but the obstacles or challenges were super small.
I would like a harem story where the male character can have a guy friend that is like a brother and he gets women to help the clan grow stronger as well. Make it different or something. Anyways I’m done with the rant. Do better bc this should be a great series

More of the same but good.

I wish the story would progress, first part of the book was so bad with the teenage angst and forced love and self doubt story, that I had to double check that I was listening to the same story. It eventually got better once DS got away from the romance part sigh. But it was more of the same as the last couple books, no progression but more arena fights.
I think the story arc is amazing if we can get out of school and start the road of change and progress. This book feels like a money grab for me.(filler) not sure how it has so many 5 star reviews but I think if anybody else would have narrated this book it would have been a flop. Andrea is a top tier narrator and carried this edition of the book. I will listen to the next book, hopefully it’s not more of the same.

The series need a harem label

The first book was very interesting but if I’d know it was going to be harem series would have wasted my time. Going to see if I can get my credits back because I’m not going to relisten to the other books.

Disappointing

Liked the first book. Second was just ok. The third was not good. The storyline took a hard turn away from magic and fight progression straight into awkward teenage romance. Gave up after chapter 6... just couldn't listen to another minute of it. Spoiler, the romance is more cringe than anything else. It may get better later if you have the endurance to suffer through.

Excellent Excellent Excellent

Unlike some books with harem elements this doesn't just fill the pages with sex and the rest of the story is very good. I love that the author made Warhammer 40k an actual game and made it a requirement. I love the combat and the warring clan elements and all in all I cannot wait for the next book. I have read almost qll of his series and I love every one.

a bit better than book 2 at least

Still feels like mostly fluff. filler side quest material that's better suited as a side quest book supporting a mainline series

i really wish the author would speed up the progression of the story. at least reveal/progress what the over riding plot is supposed to be. we can still really only speculate where the story is even going. and what the whole point of the plot is?

he still uses repetitive situations and sequences of events many times in the books. to the point where it's not only noticeable. but annoying. you can easily predict on occasion where and when something of mild note is going to happen because of the repetitive nature of his writing.

the story has potential. because again. the author reveals JUST enough stuff to make me wonder where the story is going. what's going to happen. who exactly is going to be the bad guys/protagonist etc. but after 3 books. if he doesnt speed things up and get to it. I'll be dropping the series.

another good book

another good book and I'm greatly enjoying the story over well. Can't wait to see what happens next. The narrator as always has done a fantastic job. Well done to everybody who's had a hand in bringing the story to life.

A must listen

A great continuation of the story with good character development really brings relationships to life. Also, I would buy this just for the 20 minutes I spent dying of laughter listening to the bloopers.

What's the story really about?

If you after a book about great magic fights, adventures and really good character development. THEN DONT READ THIS BOOK. Most of the book is about teenage love and in a cringe way at that characters are very one dimensional have no depth after listening to over 100 different series of fantasy books. I don't understand why so many people gave this book a good review.
