Omg is it preachy

I want to read about art, not have your opinions about race and gender shoved into my face.
I actually agree with most points but OMG is it annoying.

meh

I struggled with listening to Beth. So much of this book is comprised of tips and exercises you can find on blogs, and Beth's circular droning about social justice gets in the way of the content. Wish I didn't waste a credit on this.

absolutely a must-listen

I was captivated by this audiobook. Don't miss out on this one! The author has included some wonderful content and reads beautifully. If you want to explore your mindset surrounding your art practice and are open to hearing suggestions (many of which I found beneficial) definitely give this a listen.

Hmmm... it lost me at..

It lost me at... give 91% at work, not 100% - apparently the author thinks you shouldn't do your best at work, saving your energy for your art. Problem is, bad attitude is contagious, it will infect your artistry if you are uncaring in any part of your life!

A must-have book for every creative

My finding and reading this book couldn't have been more well timed. I've been struggling to create/write, of late, for various reasons that are also been explored in the book. Pickens' counsel is exactly what I needed. I highly recommend the book to any artist, who needs some support.

General Therapy & Self Help

A general therapy and self-help book with artist references shoehorned in throughout. Disappointed 😞

Too self help-y. Very little art in it.

Started well, then became a repetition of all the coaching /self-help stuff we are all too familiar with. Adding "art" or a list of artistic jobs at the end of every second sentence doesn't make a book be about art. The self-promotion is also tiring.
One good part was the considerations for non-mainstream people and their challenges in art. But just a superficial mention of it, sadly.

Phenomenal resource for artists

This book touched on so much more than I was expecting and each topic so concisely articulated. As a life long artist I find the information inspiring and very relevant to todays struggles. So much about inclusion and supportive concepts with I’ve found invaluable matrixes to begin setting for myself. Perfect timing!
