Publisher's Summary

Maleficent was a different sort of faerie. For one thing she was raised by all the Fair Folk after her parents were killed. For another she believed there had to be some good in everyone, even humans. Happy and spirited, Maleficent was beloved by all who knew her. That is until she experienced the ultimate betrayal by a trusted friend.

Enraged and embarking on a quest for vengeance, Maleficent must forge her own path in the world to make sense of it all. And while she learns to harness her great powers, the forces against her only grow stronger. The question is, who really is the evil one in this fairy tale?

THE HORNED WOMAN

HUMANS ARE A PART OF NATURE TOO
I never saw the movie, but will probably buy it now. It took me a little while to warm up to it, but once I did I was amazed at the depth of the writing. Adapted by Elizabeth Rudnick, she was able to get her points across without being preachy or giving lectures. It would be nice if some writers for adult fiction would take a lesson from this work. There were several twists, some I saw coming and some I did not. The first twist, I did not see coming and was shocked at the cruelty. The second twist, was one I saw coming, but loved it. Sometimes you can guess an outcome and it is a nice to be proven right and to see it happen. The last I did not see coming, but loved it.

TRUE LOVE, DIDN'T EXIST
This is a lesson in real love and in revenge. Humans can be cruel, but when seeking revenge, who else will get hurt? The kids will like this a little better than the adults, but both will enjoy it.

HEDGEHOG FAIRY
Production and Narrator were good.

Painful narration!

Had to stop just 2 chapters in, the narrator was SO sing-songy it was actually painful to listen. Skipped to the last few chapters just to hear the ending which isn't anything like the movie. Can not recommend this to anyone or any age group no matter how young.

Love this book/ audible book!

Where does Maleficent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of my favorites. I had borrowed it from the library many times till I could get my own. I listen to it often and I adore it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Maleficent?

There are many memorable moments in Maleficent. I am trying to pick just one but there are many that I am not sure I can pick just one. But I really do love when Maleficent tries to reverse the curse because she has come to love Aurora.

What does Lucy Rayner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She just really brings it alive.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Maleficent kisses Aurora after proclaiming her love for her. A mother's love. The truest love.

Any additional comments?

I adore this book and I love listening to it often. Audible makes it so easy for me to take it with me on walks, or when I'm cleaning, when ever I decide I want to listen to it instead of music. Thank you for this gift.

How could Disney have gotten it all so wrong?

This audiobook was cute as a bug. I haven’t seen the video or film or whatever version of this, but … who would have thought Disney, of all people, would have gotten the story so backwards in the original Sleeping Beauty film? Tsk, tsk, tsk.

It seems there is more to the story than we knew, and that the real villain is not Maleficent (although she did cause a lot of problems for everybody, not least of all herself), but Aurora’s father, King Stephan. Stephan betrayed Maleficent by stealing her wings, using them to try to gain favor with his predecessor, King Henry, who feared and hated fairies. When that didn’t work, he killed King Henry and altered his will to make himself King. But being King didn’t make him as happy as he had expected, especially after Maleficent attempted to take her revenge on his daughter.

Maleficent has to learn the hard way how futile trying to get revenge is, and the real meaning of true love, and that true love is really possible after all (something she had not thought possible after Stephan betrayed her), but in the end she does learn, which she did not do in the other story.

I loved the book, short expansion of the movie

The book was a little longer than the movie. You get to see where Maleficent came from. If you loved the move, you will enjoy this expanded version. It's a short read worth a quick listen.
