Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Many of us find ourselves stuck in unhealthy habits simply because we don't see a better way. Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Started off OK but...
It started off good and I was hopeful for it but they she got into the whole "eat this, don't eat that" gypsy thing and I immediately lost interest. I expect healthy body, healthy mindset, healthy food, but she just went off the deep end - no gluten, dairy, meat, fish, butter, sugar, caffeine, etc. Only fruits, veggies and beans basically. I'm already a healthy eater. I wasn't looking for a diet..... ummm it had some nice quotes and I agree with some things but this is definitely NOT was I was looking for in this book. Thanks but, this one isn't for me.
