Publisher's Summary

Great adventure story
This is an adventure story revolving around the rubber trade in the Peruvian jungle. A great story of exploitation, greed, survival and piracy as the heroes escape in the inhospitable jungle. I’ve heard about the Rubber Barons - this is a story about the labor end of the business.

Buena aventura

An adventure with a horrifying historical context
This is clearly a 'rattling good yarn' on one level, and can be enjoyed purely as such, but Figueroa is known for his research into the background of his stories, and the thing that remains with this reader at least, is the horrific exploitation and cruelty of the Brazilian rubber boom. The author's sympathy with the female characters caught up in this perhaps leads to some politically correct characterisation, but helps the story along and provides one of the morally redeeming elements of an otherwise black story. I really enjoyed the reading of this by Juan Manuel Martinez. The language is simple and direct, and the reading very clear, and so it suits my not very good level of Spanish.
