Story
Maria Griffiths is almost thirty and works at a used bookstore in New York City while trying to stay true to her punk values. She’s in love with her bike but not with her girlfriend, Steph. She takes random pills and drinks, but doesn’t inject anything except, when she remembers, estrogen, because she’s trans. Everything is mostly fine until Maria and Steph break up, sending Maria onto a cross-country trek. She ends up in the backwater town of Star City, Nevada, where she meets James, who is probably but not certainly trans, and who reminds Maria of her younger self.

Story
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Reese almost had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York City, a job she didn't hate. She had scraped together what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. The only thing missing was a child. But then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. Now Reese is caught in a self-destructive pattern: avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.

Story
Julia Serano shares her experiences and insights - both pre- and post-transition - to reveal the ways in which fear, suspicion, and dismissiveness toward femininity shape our societal attitudes toward trans women, as well as gender and sexuality as a whole. Serano's well-honed arguments and pioneering advocacy stem from her ability to bridge the gap between the often-disparate biological and social perspectives on gender. In this provocative manifesto, she exposes how deep-rooted the cultural belief is that femininity is frivolous, weak, and passive.

Alma Katsu calls My Heart Is a Chainsaw “a homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend genre.” On the surface is a story of murder in small-town America. But beneath is its beating heart: a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification, and a heartbreaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.

Gage Chandler is descended from kings. That’s what his mother always told him. Years later, he is a true crime writer, with one grisly success—and a movie adaptation—to his name, along with a series of subsequent less notable efforts. But now he is being offered the chance for the big break: to move into the house where a pair of briefly notorious murders occurred, apparently the work of disaffected teens during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s.

Story
These thirteen stories are our own lives, inside out. A boy's summer romance doesn't end in that good kind of heartbreak, but in blood. A girl on a fishing trip makes a friend in the woods, except then that friend follows her back to the city. A father hears a voice through his baby monitor that shouldn't be possible, but now he can't stop listening. From prison guards making unholy alliances to snake-oil men in the Old West doling out justice, these stories carve down into the body of the mind, into our most base fears and certainties, and there's no anesthetic.

“Reading this book was like tonguing a live wire; I loved every moment and I still haven’t recovered. Gross, fun, gutsy pulp at its best.
I was doing dishes while listening to the audiobook when That Scene happened. I just stood there, like a war wife looking out the window, seeing the army hearse pull into the driveway, water running over.
This gory, venomous, gleeful, vulnerable book dared me to be a braver writer, narrator, and queer, and for that I will always love it. Major credit to Felker-Martin for this amazing story, and Pucciariello is now one of my favorite narrators. Her work here is an incredible performance, and both are women to watch.

this book is great. If you think you will like it, you will. and if the concept is disgusting to you then you very much will not. I loved how messy and gross this book got, but like the best horror it had alot to say about our real world. I enjoyed this alot and will be sharing it with anybody I can.

hard to tell what thoughts are
I really loved the story, but I think this might be a "read, don't listen" type of book. It was confusing in some parts to tell of a character was speaking out loud or thinking to themselves. I had to listen to sections a couple times to make sure I understood which were just thoughts. I also have the feeling some words may have been emphasized in the text. I think this book may need to be read to be fully enjoyed (and listened to after that experience, it was a good performance)

Trans Wastelanders Take On Josephine Girlbbels
The narrative voice contains a shocking breadth of referential content (from pop culture, New England provincialisms, to queer theory and its indoor baseball) and weaves it into a skillful literary register. A refreshing read for lovers of post-apocalyptic speculation and queer people tired of cruciblesque Discourse.

Powerful horror
This is a dark horror adventure with a lot of blood and a lot of heart. It made me grimace and laugh in equal measure. Not for the faint of heart but definitely worth a read or listen.
I would definitely check out more from this author. The narrator was good too, I liked the accents.
