Gretchen Felker-Martin's Manhunt is an explosive post-apocalyptic novel that follows trans women and men on a grotesque journey of survival.

“A modern horror masterpiece.” —Carmen Maria Machado, bestselling author of In the Dream House

“Keeps up a relentless velocity while just being plain fun as hell.”—Torrey Peters, author of Detransition, Baby

Beth and Fran spend their days traveling the ravaged New England coast, hunting feral men and harvesting their organs in a gruesome effort to ensure they'll never face the same fate.

Robbie lives by his gun and one hard-learned motto: other people aren't safe.

After a brutal accident entwines the three of them, this found family of survivors must navigate murderous TERFs, a sociopathic billionaire bunker brat, and awkward relationship dynamics—all while outrunning packs of feral men, and their own demons.

Critic Reviews

“Reading this book was like tonguing a live wire; I loved every moment and I still haven’t recovered. As erotic as it is devastating, as brilliant as it is visceral, Manhunt is a modern horror masterpiece.” (Carmen Maria Machado, best-selling author of In the Dream House and National Book Award finalist for Her Body and Other Parties)

“An audacious dystopian story...destined to be one of the year’s most talked-about novels.” (Electric Lit)

“I dub this the great Terf-pocalypse novel.... I cannot underscore enough how much I love this novel.” (CrimeReads)

Gross, fun, gutsy pulp at its best.

I was doing dishes while listening to the audiobook when That Scene happened. I just stood there, like a war wife looking out the window, seeing the army hearse pull into the driveway, water running over.

This gory, venomous, gleeful, vulnerable book dared me to be a braver writer, narrator, and queer, and for that I will always love it. Major credit to Felker-Martin for this amazing story, and Pucciariello is now one of my favorite narrators. Her work here is an incredible performance, and both are women to watch.

Trans Grindhouse Perfection

CWs for the book: violent bigotry (including murder, SA, mob violence, public hate speeches/rallies, etc.), terf ideology, hangings, r*pe, SA, transphobia, body horror, and extreme gore

Manhunt is extremely graphic, depicting acts of sex and violence in salacious detail. It also doesn't flinch at depicting naked acts of hateful bigotry in the same detail. That would usually be enough for me to tap out. What makes it a beautiful book that's worth your time is the loving care given to depicting it's trans characters as they fight against it all; often in the small daily ways that will be all too familiar to trans readers.

Also, there are a bunch of loving, respectful, hot AF T4T sex scenes.

Pucciariello's performance is fast and clipped and passionate. A great fit for the material. She has a great range of voices and affectations which really bring the whole cast to life.

It's an indictment of TERF-ism. It's a validation of trans struggles big and small. It's a bloody, sexy mess.

Five Stars

this book is great. If you think you will like it, you will. and if the concept is disgusting to you then you very much will not. I loved how messy and gross this book got, but like the best horror it had alot to say about our real world. I enjoyed this alot and will be sharing it with anybody I can.

Good read.

Page turner. I see now why so many reviews called this book vile and disturbing, in a good way.

Post-Apocalyptic Horror at it’s finest!

As brutal as it is devastatingly beautiful. This story will stick with me for a very long time. It’s brilliant!

Katherine Pucciariello did a delightful job capturing and exuding each character’s personality. Awesome performance!

Great story and brutal as hell

Super engaging story with really fluid action scenes that I could not stop listening to. I appreciated the nuance of the outright social commentary mixed in with subtle moments of heartbreak that really make you feel for the characters. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good post apocalypse story or anyone looking for good queer fiction.

had high hopes

I really was waiting for this story to be meaningful in some way. maybe show that it's not good when either gender has full power over another, or what it means to be a woman through hardships despite what gender you were assigned at birth, but I ended the book feeling like there was no result past killing the turfs, which I suppose fictionally speaking, i have no complaint about offing clear villians, but I was hoping for a more applicable resolution to the real world. I also found myself more interested in the side characters than the main ones. and not to spoil much more, but the romance between two of the main characters at the end felt very out of nowhere. it just could have been a better read.

My heart

I am a big fan of apocalypse stories so this was right up my ally and did not disappoint. However, of course it is so much more than that and my heart was not ready to fall in love with some of these characters like it did. Love this book.
I will say, at some points it was a bit difficult to tell which character was narrating when it switched between them.

Great listen!

Really enjoyed this book! You can tell who hasn’t read it and are jumping to faux outrage!
Completely messed up in parts - but isn’t that why we like this genre!
Thank you to the Daily Mail and Anti-Trans Activists for recommending this book! Will definitely be supporting Gretchen Felker-Martin more by exploring more of her work!

Heaps of gory fun

Gory, over the top fun that nonetheless hit me with a dysphoria gutpunch despite being a cis guy. Performance was great (so many game attempts at northeast coast accents, have to respect it), pacing skips along and the premise is just so wild you have to hold your nose and dive in after the writer. text could maybe have done with another editors pass - there's a few bits where characters think about stuff only a reader would consider, not a real person - but other than that the writing has verve.

Heart wrenching

Okay - so people are maybe going to know this from the negative reviews , from the controversy - good - I hope you hate listen to this and it’s absolutely heart wrenching tale of people - just people trying to get by at the end of the world - the insightful way it captures the trans experience- in a could be wilderness - brought me to tears - I really want to come back to this place to find out what happened to Robbie or Beth - outstanding

Powerful horror

This is a dark horror adventure with a lot of blood and a lot of heart. It made me grimace and laugh in equal measure. Not for the faint of heart but definitely worth a read or listen.
I would definitely check out more from this author. The narrator was good too, I liked the accents.
