Publisher's Summary

To hate and to scold....

Derek Chambers, Marquess of Whitlock, has a problem: his wife. She is the single most horrifying aspect of his life, and the only thing he has ever enjoyed about her are their truly spectacular fights. As such, he prefers having as little to do with her as possible. So when she unexpectedly summons him to London, he surprises himself by going, and finds his life turned upside down in ways he never thought possible.

To loathe and to perish....

Katherine despises her worthless and irritating husband, and nothing bothers her more than the fact that he actually came to London when she sent for him. Worst of all, now that he has come, she needs him to stay. With her. And with his every smile making her heart race, she begins to wonder if there could be more to him than meets the eye.

Just OK

Interesting enough to finish, but not really to recommend. The conflicts were contrived. The dialogue and all the romantic scenes were redundant. The story could have been told in half the time. There were some grammar slip ups as well. The characters contradicted themselves. The ending was sudden and contrived. Also, it's completely unbelievable that 2 people could build a solid foundation of dislike and distrust over 5 years and then change all of it in 2 weeks. In my experience it takes at least 3 years to heal from every 1 year a husband and wife are assholes to each other.

Love grows slowly

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I would recommend it with the caveat that no men of rank who lived in the time of this story would ever have indulged in - or lowered themselves to - physical labor. I do not see how this anachronistic detail was essential to the story but perhaps the author wanted the hero to be able to show off his physique through a sweat-soaked shirt.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two protagonists played off each other very well. Moira, from the first in the Arrangements series, played a catalyst role in getting them to see one another in a different light

Which scene was your favorite?

Two were very affecting: When Derek watched and listen to Kate play the pianoforte and the picnic where the two of them gazed at the clouds and the sky.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Their last, ferocious fight and its aftermath of regret and sorrow in Derek and Kate.

Impotent hero/sexless heroine

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is good for anyone that hates sex. Or anyone that thinks it's really nice when 2 gay people can make a match and live a happy life together.

Would you ever listen to anything by Rebecca Connolly again?

No, only if I want to suspend any sense of reality

What three words best describe Jessica Elisa Boyd’s performance?

nothing very special

What character would you cut from Married to the Marquess?

It's too boring, so anyone could be cut from this novel, even the h/h.

Any additional comments?

I don't like authors that can't/don't write a love scene in a romance. If you can't do that , then write another type of book. It makes me think that this author is an old-fashioned thinker , that believes sex is dirty, so doesn't want it in a romance. 2 married people, that are in love and have a responsibility to produce an heir, just go to their separate empty beds after kissing and spending a wonderful evening together. I kept waiting for them to admit they were not heterosexual and then get a divorce...it was too unbelievable.

Worst communicators EVER

These two have to be the worst communicators in the history of fiction. On the plus side, they definitely win the award for best mopers & whiners.

I don’t understand what happened. The first book was so good! But books 3 & 2 (I accidentally listened to them out of order) have the most illogical and infuriating main characters who can’t communicate (and while I agree there are situations one is better off remaining silent, the situations where these characters remain silent have no such barriers), make incredibly stupid/illogical decisions, and resolve to change and then go back and do the exact same thing (individually mope and whine instead of taking the required action) over and over and over. The books read as though the author had a word goal but no idea what to do with them.

This book is EVERYTHING

What a clean, sweet, enjoyable and absolutely beautiful love story. This author is so gifted with words. The narrator was outstanding!! You won’t regret reading this book.

Clean and Nice

I like that this book focuses on a married couple. I like that it shows a couple overcoming their hardships and that it takes change in both to make it happen.

Liked book 1 much better.

I generally enjoy this genre, but I wanted to roll my eyes way too many times in this story.

Really Good!

Off the bat, I LOVE this series. I purposely listened to Book 2 last. A couple of things - the narrator's volume quality was subpar (it improves drastically in all the other books). The sound arched in several places...and I mean several.

Once you get past this, it was a good book. Not my favorite in the series but still a great listen.

Not as good as the first...

This was an okay book. It started off great, then towards the middle it got too wordy and repetitive. I was wishing for it to end which is never good. The plot was weaker than the 1st book. Kate's character was too much of crybaby. Again, her character started off cool and then didn't amount to anything. I know you're not supposed to compare books but Moira (1st book) was so unique and had character developement, whereas Kate did not (in my opinion). I think what annoyed me the most is that there was so much inner dialogue about what Derek and Kate were doing wrong but both they both didn't do much to change it until the very end.

Started off well...

Such a let down. Close to 0 conflict until the very end and then totally unbelievable. Don’t waste a credit/your time

Addictive, wonderfully crafted stories

The second book I’ve listened to by Rebecca Connolly and I am hooked! I can’t help but add her to my list of authors that are favourites and ones for which I’ll by the book just because it’s written by one of my favourite authors, even before I know what it’s about. This series of romances based on arrangements is so captivating, enthralling, and fulfilling. I recommend it without reservation.
