Publisher's Summary
Are you ready, Max? If anyone's going to help me do this, it's you.
The heart-warming tale of a life-saving friendship.
In 2006, a traumatic car accident changed Kerry Irving's life forever.
Suffering from severe neck and back injuries, Kerry was unemployed and housebound, struggling with depression and even thoughts of suicide. He went from cycling over 600 miles a month to becoming a prisoner in his own home.
With hope all but lost, Kerry's wife encouraged him to go on a short walk to the local shop. In the face of unbearable pain and overwhelming panic, he persevered and, along the way, met an adorable yard dog named Max. As the Spaniel peered up through the railings, Kerry found comfort and encouragement in his soulful brown eyes. This chance encounter marked a turning point in both their lives.
In Max, Kerry found comfort and motivation, and in Kerry, Max found someone to care for him. This is their remarkable, inspiring story.

Slow beginning
The beginning is a little slow but then you learn about Max for the first time and your hooked. I had to read (hear) the book on breaks, at dinner table (after getting the family caught up) and then right before bed. I was in those fields, playing in the water and meeting all the people with Max. One of the best stories ever. But best of all, I had my black and white springer spaniel right by my side. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

What a story!
Max really was the miracle dog. I started following his journey on Facebook about 2 years ago with my Mum who had been an avid follower for a long time prior. This book shares some great behind the scenes stories of life with max and Kerry’s journey too. It was a wonderful book.
I started listening to this a few days after Max had crossed the rainbow bridge… so a few tears were shed too.

A lovely ending to sad beginnings
The story was moving, compelling and vital until the dog become integrated into the author's life, after which most content was filler. The chapters about life with disability were however excellent, as was the point that speaking openly about genuine emotions provides an opening we all desperately yearn for.

I’ve been a Max fan for several years, hardly surprising considering we have three wonderful springers of our own, but I hadn’t expected Kerry and Max’s story to be so moving, heartwarming and uplifting. Highly recommended for anyone looking for the light at the end of the tunnel or who needs convincing that having a dog by your side will brighten any dark day.

Have the tissues at hand!
I've followed the Max Facebook page for a couple of years, Kerry, Angela and their furry family are a favourite with many tens of thousands. What I had no idea about was the start of the story, Kerry's formative years and his depression. The story is a must listen, it resonates with me and will surely touch the hearts of all those who listen to it. The narration is excellent from Marston York and having heard Kerry read some of the book the similarity in voices is uncanny. I listened to this book during several hundreds of mile motorway journeys and it eats up the miles, but be warned it does make a grown man cry!
A cannot turn it off listen!

absolutely delightful!!
This book is right up there with my favourite books of all time. I just loved it. I have had Springer spaniels all my life and this made it extra special, but even without that connection this is a wonderful story. I loved every minute and I know I will listen to it again and again. The narrator did a fantastic job too.
