I’m sorry this is the last of the series.

Great entertainment. I developed a great affinity for the characters and their relational growth over the course of the series- I’ve enjoyed these dramatizations so much I’ve purchased some of the audiobooks. Whether they are as good wont diminish my pleasure of theses radio dramas-

If you like classic Sherlock Holmes try McLevy.

I am a huge fan of all classic Sherlock Holmes stories, and am not a fan of the modernized stuff I've seen. I grew up on and never can get enough radio drama. No one does all of this better than the BBC. When I saw a recommendation for McLevy, I thought why not give it a try, and I am so glad I did. I purchased all the series and there isn't a week story in the whole bunch. McLevy is like Holmes in his frustrated relationships with the women in his life. He's definitely more of a romantic than Sherlock Holmes, though not as sentimental as Dr Watson. Like Holmes, McLevy also has a lovable and rather bumbling partner in Constable Mulholland. Listening to the two of them banter back and forth is one of the many joys of this show. McLevy is more humorous than Holmes. Then there is the darkly scheming, yet mysteriously lovely Jean Brash whose feminine charms prove irresistible to the law enforcing Inspector. McLevy is well fleshed out and humanly believable. Like Sherlock Holmes stories, some of McLevy's may stretch the bounds of credibility but serve up a wonderful distraction to take us away from the ever present politics and problems of the modern world to the filthy crime infested streets of Edinburgh. If you like Victorian era mysteries you really can't go wrong here. My only complaint is that it ended way too soon. These are stories I will listen to over and over again.

Farewell, McLevy!

I hate that I am at the end of this series!!
I love Brian Cox and I love the Scottish accent.
The stories were good and there was a lot of
chuckles to be had in the listening of it.
A very good cast and series!

Excellent Series

I happened upon McLevy after listening to detective fiction by Raymond Chandler and listening to the series of radio dramas about Phillip Marlowe. After listening to the audio sample of the first series of McLevy, I felt that it was something that I would enjoy. From there I listened to each of the twelve series and thoroughly enjoyed each episode. I became familiar with the characters James McLevy,Jean Brash, Constable Mulholland, and Inspector Roach and followed them throughout the series getting to know them and to fall in love with the characters. The actors became the characters, and the characters grew on me. I feel like they were real people that I could relate to and they seemed like they really lived the lives portrayed in the stories. It was the best series that I have ever listened to. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to see characters come alive, ponder their existence, and do their best to deal with what roles they have been given to play in life at a given place and time.

Noooo! There must be more!

I have listened to this entire series in about 3 days and a bereft to find myself at the end. Sterling performances, wonderful stories, completely engaging.

So Sad to React the End

I've listened to every story in every series several times, and came to this last set with immense sadness. I might have envisioned a different denouement, but in keeping with the darker nature of the stories, the conclusion satisfies. I hope others discover this treasury of incredible radio drama.

McLevy never disappoints.

Pure entertainment from start to finish. I'm going to miss McLevy like an old friend. There's nothing more entertaining than McLevy and Mulholland "on the saunter"

WONDERFUL FANTASTIC I LOVE ❤️McLEVY

I love McLevy ! ❤️These are fantastic well produced wonderfully acted shows based on the true accounts of the real Scottish Victorian Inspector McLevy and I never get tired of listening to them. I own the full 12 Series and NEED MORE PLEASE! But having spoken with the writer (McLevy’s boss) also played by the writer David Ashton; he tells me the BBC have no intentions of producing any more. This is very sad 😪😪😪 WE LOVE ❤️McLEVY !

The finale

The end of the series and I'm sad that it has come to an end. It's been and fun and interesting listen which I enjoyed very much. I loved the the relationship between all the characters and I would say that inspector Mclevy is the Victorian version of inspector Poirot with how his mind works. I would definitely recommend it and also recommend starting from the first book then you can see how the characters develop and follow the storylines better by knowing the back story.

Brilliant!

Memorable finale of this excellent radio detective series based in the mean streets of Victorian Edinburgh. Brian Cox makes a convincing McLevy and Siobhan Redmond a perfect foil to him. The cast and production also excellent.

Excellent Series.

Excellent stories and outstanding performances from All the cast from the main characters to those with small roles.
A pity the series had to end but a fitting and very plausible ending.
Such attention to reality is something that is lacking these days in modern serials where the audience is expected to suspend their disbelief and common sense and just except the ridiculous.

Great Scottish Story

Really great set of drama's well acted out, and with a true base line.
Perfect drama for listing too in the car, on long trips. My wife and I have listen to them many times. BBC at its best.
