Story
Steven Rinella grew up in Twin Lake, Michigan, the son of a hunter who taught his three sons to love the natural world the way he did. As a child, Rinella devoured stories of the American wilderness, especially the exploits of his hero, Daniel Boone. He began fishing at the age of three and shot his first squirrel at eight and his first deer at 13. He chose the colleges he went to by their proximity to good hunting ground, and he experimented with living solely off wild meat. As an adult, he feeds his family from the food he hunts.

Cameron Hanes discovered his true passion for bowhunting when he was twenty. Inspired by the physical challenges of stalking elk in the Oregon wilderness—traversing mountainous terrain, braving erratic weather, and evading his quarry’s even more dangerous predators—he began an ever-evolving journey of self-improvement. To become the best bowhunter of wild elk, to the caliber he believed he could be, Cam realized he would need more than archery skills.

America's Great Plains once possessed one of the grandest wildlife spectacles of the world, equaled only by such places as the Serengeti, the Masai Mara, or the veld of South Africa. Pronghorn antelope, gray wolves, bison, coyotes, wild horses, and grizzly bears: less than 200 years ago these creatures existed in such abundance that John James Audubon was moved to write "it is impossible to describe or even conceive the vast multitudes of these animals".

We think of Roosevelt as an original, yet in The Naturalist, Darrin Lunde shows how from his earliest days Roosevelt actively modeled himself in the proud tradition of museum naturalists - the men who pioneered a key branch of American biology through their desire to collect animal specimens and develop a taxonomy of the natural world.

A little disappointing
I really enjoy the Meateater crew. They are good folks. Was really looking forward to the book but I’m a little disappointed in it. Some of the stories were interesting, but many were built up to be major things and then a huge letdown with the climax. Also each chapter title essentially gives away what the whole chapter is about. I still wholeheartedly support what the ME crew does, and the book is still worth the listen, but just wasn’t that impressed. Also slightly disappointed that it was only five hours. I only get one listen a month with my subscription plan and I listened to this whole book in like 2 days. Usually lasts me two or three weeks. Don’t want to end on a bad note, they really did a good job with the performance of the audio and the sound effects. Keep up what y’all do!

As an outdoor enthusiast, hiker, hunter, fisherman and lover of all things out of doors, this was absolutely 5 stars. This book has everything you would like. Some of, or if not all of the stories here I really wonder how are your guys girls not dead?!? This book should be called "I Should Be Dead". Fantastic just like the podcasts
As someone who has loved to listen to Steve talk since his first appearance on Joe Rogan I was not suprised that this book is amazing, but was happy to hear the individuals tell their tales themselves, not having them acted out means they aren't always delivered in the perfect manner of a voice actor but that increases the impact of each one as the person remembers the event, you can tell they're reliving it.
The cultural and societal aspects of these stories make them fascinating to me, just like the podcast, these are lives I'll never lead, but I could listen to them all day. Just like the last guide book they released there is a tale in here for everyone, from a simple hike to chasing bass in cartel country Colombia.
Would recommend for fans of the podcast, any level of outdoors person or just people who like a great story.
