I love this book

Life is never too busy to sit quietly with yourself. I learned not to be judgmental of myself or others. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to achieve a calmer mind! A quick but spot on guide to help you reset and refocus. When your mind is unconsciously keeping you from being your best each day; focus, face, reset! The techniques are helpful and pretty common sense. Short, sweet and 100% on point!

My favorite meditation book.

I am on again off again insane. When I pick this little gem up and listen a passage it get's me out of my own head and starting to listen to something other than the deranged musings of the insane(me). It seems to work as long as I make the decision to use it.

starsBest translation

Very good translation. I tried a number of different translations and they seemed to be either unclear, full of archaic language, or just seemingly incorrect translations. This may err on the side of being too colloquial but only now and then. For the most part it's clear, concise, direct and an easy read. As other reviews say, packed with wisdom that's stunningly relevant to our times

The Beginner's Go-To Guide for Meditation

Brief, simply defined, daily thoughts to meditate on. Its seemingly weightless at first glance yet each one moves you progressively towards bringing a little more openness & peace into yours & others lives. Its not a how to or book of quotes, its a very friendly, digestible ,easy tool in your tool box of self awareness. It makes you think ...and yet the entries may only be a line or two.

Great purchase, highly recommend!

The book is a very useful companion to the DVD series. I find a book so much easier to use as a reference. This book, however, only goes half way. There is no real index beyond lecture titles. The bibliography looks very complete. There is a short glossary, but again, without any page references.

Exactly what I wanted

Different techniques are called for at different times in our lives and I think this book allows for that initial understanding and beginning point through to an expansion of practice and transformation. It was nice to learn so much about different practices as well... take what works for you and leave the rest kind of thing. highly recommended

I have perused many as I am keen on reflection and attempting to make it a piece of my life. I discovered this book simple to peruse and discovered that there are a wide range of approaches to ponder. Subsequent to perusing this book I have chosen to concentrate on breath contemplation and care these impact me.

A Good Start or should I say Restart

I love this book - I've owned it for years. I bought it for someone who felt they should learn to meditate.
I can say from my own experience of 25+ years of following it's instructions - it works. It truly leads to being able to meditate and access the deeper & higher levels of consciousness within oneself

Perfect addition in newest edition!!!

This is one that is a simple and easy to understand introduction to meditation practices, but one that you will find yourself drawn to repeatedly over time and be continuingly amazed at the pragmatic depths of wisdom gracing its pages.

Surpassed all my expectations.

I am sincerely pissed that I was not provided a copy of this as a kid growing up. I have devised a work around to the whole "Not growing up with a father figure" issue. I have decided that Beth Yates is my actual father, and Socrates is my great uncle and Thales is my grand father First, do we all recognize that the author of this text, Beth Yates , If so, why have I not been forced to read this from a young age? This is quite possibly the most insightful, existential book I've ever listen. Emperor Beth Yates has given us wisdom in its purest form.

We haven't changed.

There is so much argument over which translation is the best. I initially obtained the free version from project Gutenberg, but found it to be filled with too many embellishments from old English. I then looked at the modern Hays translation which many people seem to like, but found it to be too colloquial and it seemed to rob the text of its gravity. Finally I found gestalt with this penguin translation. Best book for meditation . i love this book so much.
