Publisher's Summary

Hear the book New York Times bestselling author Whitney G. called "a sexy, fast-paced read that'll leave you hot, panting, and completely captivated!”

Fire captain and bar owner Becker Thomas usually spends his nights alone, trying to escape painful memories from his past. When he meets a sexy, free-spirited brunette outside his bar, he knows he's found the perfect way to forget for one night. But when he discovers the woman he wants back in his bed is his best friend's sister, everything comes to a halt.

Megan Jansen has one rule - no firemen. Just out of a toxic relationship, she's only in Hidden Oaks long enough to visit her brother and photograph the local calendar before she slips off on another adventure. The brooding man who gave her the best sex ever is an unexpected surprise. The problem is, he's her brother's friend...and a fireman. She knows she's going to get burned, but keeping their hands off each other is easier said than done.

Female Narrator Ruined it

The story probably would have been decent, but I didn't even make it past the meet-cute. Maybe her voice is to some people's liking, but not mine. The female narrator was creaky, not raspy, and she had a habit of stretching the last word out of each sentence like she was still humming after finishing. Maybe that's supposed to be sexy? Bugged me too much, had to stop.

I'm pretty sure I read this book years ago but when the audio was released I knew I had to listen since Lauren Blakely has the best taste in narrators. I love firefighters in my romance books.
Becker & Megan have the hottest chemistry and they spend most of this book trying to deny it which just makes it even better. This book had an emotion side to it along with the sexy side. Becker has some demons that he's working through and Megan has really only 1 rule and that is no Firefighters. When these two meet they have a great instant connection which I enjoyed very much. I never realized that Lauren Blakley was ALWAYS good at low drama romance, I really thought this would be high drama since it's from early in her career but nope, there is a little but not the drawn out kind that authors add just to give the story drama. I know I say this in every Lauren Blakely book review but I LOVE low drama romance, therefor I love Lauren Blakely books!

The narration was great, Joe Arden & Erin Mallon are both amazing narrators so I knew going in that they would bring these characters to life perfectly.

Narrator

Erin Mallon's diction was so distracting that I could hardly finish this book. Mallon has a way of drawing out that last syllable of a sentence that is so annoying. It was like narrating the sinking of the Titanic or the destruction of the Hindenburg in every line.

DNF at 50%

The narrators ruined this story for me. They don’t sound anything like how the characters are described. It might be better read than heard.

This is a hot one!!

I originally read this book back in 2014. I loved it then, and I love the audiobook even more w/Joe Arden and Erin Mallon bringing Becker and Megan to life. The chemistry between them from the moment they meet is instant, and it gets better as the book goes on. Both of them cautious because of past experiences, neither wants to embark on a relationship. They both feel all they can offer is a shallow, physical (and scorching hot), and brief moment in time. To their surprise, they’re both what each other needs to help heal their painful pasts.

I loved the strong sense of family w/this story, both by blood and by sharing a dangerous profession. I could listen to this audiobook over and over, and I probably will. Great listen!

Broken souls healing each other

There is something about a firefighter romance that is so appealing and Lauren Blakely heats it up with Becker and Megan. These two meet as a one night stand, but soon find out that Megan is the sister of Becker's best friend. Now destined to be apart, these two fight their attraction until they can't. Both Becker and Megan have walls around their hearts, but will they find a way to break them down? These two are a breath of fresh air. Becker owns a bar and is the captain of the fire department. He has sworn off relationships, so when Megan comes along, he is no where near ready for her. His resolve is strong, his history keeping him from being loved. Can Megan squeeze her way into his heart? Megan has problems with men in dangerous jobs. Will she be able to see past the danger and love the man? These two have their work cut out for them, but together, anything is possible. The ending is so perfect, I can see why Megan would "Melt for Him".!

Joe Arden and Erin Mallon are a team that can do no wrong! These two bring the characters to life with such real emotion, it's impossible not to get drawn in. Each feeling and touch is so well performed, it's like we are watching it happen and experiencing the story with Becker and Megan. I love their narration!

Sexy, sweet firefighter romance! Perfect narration.

I love firefighters. Talk about sizzle and heat! Lauren Blakely gave me everything I loved wrapped up in six hours of delicious audiobook goodness!

-insta lust
-best friend’s little sister
-firefighter
-great banter
-sweet and sexy hero
-quirky, likable heroine

Overall this was an amazing listen. I loved the push and pull aspect of their relationship between Becker and Megan. They both had walls up that they eventually let down. Then angst is kept to a low amount. Just enough to keep your earbuds firmly in place, but not enough to render you a sobbing mess.

Narration by Joe Arden and Erin Mallon was excellent. Mr. Arden does wonderful work of balancing Becker’s sweet and sexy sides while Erin Mallon can deliver humor, heat, and heart at a snap. Looking forward to more from this narrating duo. 4 Stars.

The Heart is a Fearless Creature

Joe Arden and Erin Mallon did a fantastic job narrating this sexy and heartfelt best friend's little sister romance. Though this is book 2 in the series, I had no problem enjoying Becker and Megan's story (even though I have not read/listened to book 1).

The chemistry between fire captain/bar owner Becker and photographer/artist Megan was scorching hot! Becker and Megan both have some heavy baggage that has been influencing their choices and holding them back emotionally, but in each other they find understanding and comfort. They meet a bit unconventionally and things start off hot and heavy right from the start. Even though it's mutual attraction and lust that bring them together initially, it's their honesty and vulnerability that turn things into so much more. The push and pull between them as they try to deny their feelings was fantastic and I loved seeing all their walls come crashing down. I also appreciated that the angst and drama weren't over the top and that both Megan and Becker are all in once things get going. I felt their fears and concerns were realistic and understandable given their histories. Yes, some mistakes are made along the way, but overall, they communicated openly and honestly with each other and there was no mincing words.

Joe Arden and Erin Mallon made this a really enjoyable listen and I felt Joe Arden especially was amazing as Becker, striking the perfect balance of sweet and gentle as well as commanding and sexy. I think I'm so used to hearing Erin Mallon in more comedic roles, it took me a bit to really feel her as Megan. She was just the right amount of quirky, but sometimes during the more serious moments I had a hard time connecting. The performances were still superb, however, and you really can't go wrong with these narrators. Fans of Lauren Blakely are sure to enjoy this one!

Predictable hot & heavy but no love story

Same old quicky to bed with uncontrollable lust. But no building of intimacy and love. Word porn with out the story.

Meltingly HOT 🔥🔥🔥 Absolutely ❤️

This is the second ‘included’ in my membership book I’ve listened to by this author.
HOT characters, HOT storyline and SUPER HOT chemistry 😉 🔥❤️ Not sure if they are part of a series, but the characters and stories are linked, which I like, but they are standalone too. Always nice to have a story finished properly and to give the reader/listener a choice if they want to read more. None of this half finished, drag it out and milk it for all its worth, which I’m finding more common and personally really hate.
Good narration by this pair, who I’ve come across a lot before. However, why do a lot of these women narrators sound like they have a head cold ie blocked nose??? Maybe at the time of recording they do ?? Maybe it’s just me ?? 🤔 doesn’t put me off or rate it any less though!
A very good listen! 👍👍

depth to this great story from Ms Blakely. This author manages a tight storyline, loads of feelings & emotion within mere paragraphs.

Short and Steamy

Love this series by Lauren Blakely, the characters are hot, the scenes are steamy but there is a seriousness underlying it all that cannot be denied. the perfect combination for a story, well written, good amount of intensity, an ending as it should be. Love the narrators too who get the voices just right.

Lovely romantic story where two people fall in love. The backdrop is a fireman and an arty gal, damaged by her past relationship and both haunted by being involved with fires. Great, easy listening.

nice story

I read another of lauren blakelys books and I wasn't impressed but I always try a 2nd book just in case.
Im Glad I did as I enjoyed this one. I think it's the fire-fighter thing but It worked. I engaged with the the hero and heroine and I liked the plot. It was easy light and HEA
It was all about fear and past demons but it was nice to see the past exorcised in both.
Great little read.

Not only was this book about firefighters but it needed a firefighter to put it out. It was so hot. The chemistry between Becker and Meghan was scorching, burning, sizzling with heat. One of the best books Lauren has written to date. Joe Arden and Erin Mallon were fantastic with the narration, really bringing the characters to life. Absolutely a five star review!!!!!
