Story
Kamran’s ex broke his heart, tricked him into aiding a bank robbery, and now he wants him to do one last job. There’s only one way to say no: Seek the protective custody of the biggest, grumpiest FBI agent ever. And pretend to be his boyfriend for a weeklong family reunion in their giant mansion. Wait, what? Agent Lee Marshall is notoriously all work and no play. Letting a flirty, hot-as-sin playboy like Kamran get under his skin is not an option. He has to protect him, not hook up with him. But pretending they’re an item for a week? That couldn’t hurt....

I've been in love with my best friend since forever. Okay, fine. Like, kindergarten. It started out platonic, obviously, but then became.... Nope. Still platonic. The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him that the two of us are meant to be together. And now, there's no point. All is lost. He's gone and gotten engaged to his high-school sweetheart - which means I have to grin and bear it, while pretending to be the happy, supportive best man, while he prepares to commit his life to a woman.

The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all. He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known. We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens. I’m a SEAL. Or rather, I was. Retired at the grand old age of 38, I’m at loose ends. My best friend wants me to join his security team. I’m not sure I’m bodyguard material, but he needs someone to protect his kid brother. How hard can spoiled brat duty be? Somehow, I missed the part where former child star Danny Love went from dorky TV darling to all grown up and disturbingly attractive. All the gossip about his wild ways fails to mention that he’s trying hard to clean up his act.

I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

Loved!
Nick J. Russo knocks it out of the park with his narration of Memory Lane by HJ Welch.
Memory Lane is a wonderful addition to the Pine Cove series. It can be listened to as a stand alone.
This is a best friends to lovers, bisexual awakening story that I devoured.
Even though they have a long history together things feel brand new now. While Jay has always had feelings for Angel, he never thought they could go anywhere as Angel was straight.
While Angel is confused by his new feelings for Jay he is open to see where things will go.
I loved going on their journey to their HEA! Great story!

Jay and Angel's Best-Friends-to-Lovers Story
As someone who hasn’t read the first 3 books of this series, I do agree that it’s a stand-alone story, but there are supporting characters from previous books that I feel would make the experience a little fuller. I think I’m going to backtrack and read those stories too.
As a result of an accident, stuntman Angel suffers from temporary amnesia. His best friend Jay, who is secretly in love with him, tells hospital staff he is Angel’s fiance. A journey of bisexual awakening begins for Angel. What will this mean for Jay and Angel’s friendship?
My favorite trope from the book is the amnesia storyline. Welch uses this to brilliant effect. Angel has always identified as straight but the memory loss, and Jay pretending to be his fiance, has made him see himself in a different light. Jay, for his part, seems to have a tougher time dealing with this revelation. Welch tells a story of two best friends getting to know each other again in light of Angel’s finding his true self and falling in love. It’s a well-told story, filled with emotion that leads to the happily-ever-after.
Nick J Russo’s narration is wonderful, as always. His voice-acting matches the tone of Welch’s story perfectly.
This audiobook was given to me for free and at my request as a review copy. This is my voluntary opinion of it.
Highly recommended.

Worth waiting for
There’s a lot to like about this story, especially figuring out bisexuality and coming out later in life. BUT, there were things that irritated me as well, namely the obliviousness of Jay and Angel (Jay during the book and Angel the 16 years prior) and the amount of repetitive filler included by the author because of it. Overall though, I enjoyed listening to this and Nick J. Russo does well narrating, providing emotion without going overboard, and making the various characters distinctive enough to identify.

Comfort read
Jay has been in love with his best friend Angel since they were sixteen. But Angel is straight—or so it seems. After Angel is in a car crash and loses part of his memory, he stays with Jay to recuperate. As parts of his memory return, Angel realizes he might be bisexual. And he might return Jay's feelings after all.
Friends to loves, bi-awakening romance is probably my favorite trope. HJ Welch handles it beautifully in this story. It's a slow burn, full of longing. Jay and Angel are sweet and genuine, and they're adorable together. The side characters are fun and provide a strong sense of community. While the plot is strong, it's the characters that make this book such a pleasure to read.
Nick J. Russo does an amazing job with the narration. His voice has a gentle, soothing quality without ever being boring. Each character is distinct and the emotions faithful to the text.
Thanks, Gay Romance Reviews, for the audio ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

sweet best friends to lovers story
Memory Lane is Book 5 in the Pine Cove series, though each book can standalone. This is a beautifully written story about best friends to lovers and second chances. Jay and Angel have been friends since grade school but haven't seen each other in sixteen years. While working on a film set, in their home town, Angel is in a car accident and sustained some memory loss. Jay happens to tell the nurses at the hospital that he's Angel's fiancé to get any information on him, though Jay has always thought Angel was straight. I love Jay and Angel's journey as they discover their more than friendly love for each other as Jay helps Angel recover in his home. This is a sweet story that had me engaged from beginning to end. I recommend this book and series.
Narrator Nick J. Russo has a marvelous job in bringing these characters to life. He really was a treat to listen to.

Best Friends Romance
This book has all the m/m tropes: straight best friend, memory loss, bisexual awakening, and a little fake fiancé action to round it out. I really like the way the book discussed bisexuality and Angel’s coming out. A lot of m/m stories do not treat bisexuals well – or ignore the existence of bisexuals completely. The story starts and ends with a fair amount of action, but drags a bit in the middle. There’s a lot of internal monologues by the MCs, which I don’t enjoy as it tends to make the story slow down. If you’ve read/listened to other books in this series those characters pop up through the book. Nick Russo does a great job narrating as always.

Mostly MCs inner thoughts
I’ve been looking forward to Jay’s story so I’m really disappointed. I’m used to this author overusing the inner thoughts of the main characters, but it was excessive in this book. I felt like I didn’t get to the main storyline until the halfway mark. Then it wasn’t flushed out. So much more could have been done with it. The idea was good. The narrator was good. But it fell flat.

You are my greatest adventure
I have loved all books in the “Pine Cove” series mainly because they are fluffy, cozy and they stand-alone. No matter which book you jump into, you will be able to feel a warm-hearted, small town romance. I have waited for Jay’s book long enough since I encountered him in the previous books and HJ Welch really doesn’t disappoint me. Friends to lovers have always been one of my favorite tropes and even a sexual awakening to boot, this is one very happy listener/reader!
Angel had led an exciting life as a stuntman traveling around the world. Meanwhile, Jay has always been living in Pine Cove quietly pining for his best friend who’s having the adventure of his life. When Angel returned because of an accident with a hazy memory, Jay pretended to be his fiancée to take care of him. Even when the ruse is over, Angel found that he had already fallen in love with this gentle, caring and beautiful best friend of his Jay.
This is such a nice blend of book. There’s a bit of mystery, a heavy taste of drama and lots and lots of fluffy romance. I loved that I could still seee some of the characters from our previous Pine Cove books. NJR as always did a lovely job narrating and bringing this story to life. Love it.

Entertaining Story
This was the first book in the series that I listened to, and I had no issues jumping in. I could tell the side characters probably had their own stories, but nothing that interfered with the storyline here.
Jay and and Angel have been friends forever. Jay was secretly in love with his supposed straight best friend. It took an accident and a little short term amnesia to jumpstart their unexpected relationship,
These characters were fun, friendly, and easy to relate to. They made you want to jump in the story and hang out. This was an easy, fairly low angst, and not too much drama. It does touch on homophobic behavior as well as biphobia. I was happy with how it was wrapped up, and pleased with the mc’s HEA.
Nick J. Russo did a great job with the characters. He’s always fun to listen to. He uses just the right amount of enthusiasm, along with various other emotions, into each character and easily has you feeling what the characters do.

I preferred the audio to ebook
This return to Pine Cove was a sweet friends to lovers tale with a side order of memory loss to help things on there way. I liked Angel and his willingness to explore his new-found bisexuality. Jay infuriated me. He made assumptions all the time without asking Angel's input on situations. In the ebook I thought it descended into the melodramatic by the end but the narrator softened the impact of this for me.
All the other couples from the previous books appear in this. However there is no need to have read or listened to any of the other books in the series.

Great friend to lovers romance
Lovely best friends to lovers romance, Jay and Angel have fated mates written all over them. They were always there for each other growing up and when back in the same town together nothing has changed.
A well written book with some intense moments and a very satisfying HEA, great listen.

A favorite series just gets better
This book has it all! Two of my favorite tropes, friends to lovers and the classic amnesia/head injury one which assists in the friends to lovers but also allows for hurt/comfort. Jay and Angel are both wonderful men and it was delightful seeing them find their way to each other while their close friends see it coming from a mile away. There is a nice little mystery (Welch reminds me of E. Davies in the skill with which both integrate a mystery and some hissable homophobic characters into their stories). I fell in love with H.J. Welch because of the previous entry in this series, Bright Horizon, and this one is equally good. May this series run for a long, long time. Nick J. Russo is perfect in his performance. I loved his take on the two main characters, he made the bad guy satisfyingly nasty and the happy ending as warm and loving as written.

Incredibly sweet best friends to lovers romance
I really enjoyed this very sweet best friends to lovers romance. This is a bit of a slow burn as Jay and Angel both believe Angel is straight and always has been. It takes an accident and a little amnesia for Angel to start seeing Jay with new eyes and realize what is right in front of him. I appreciated the slow development of Angel's sexual awareness, as well as Jay working through his own feelings of inadequacy compared to Angel's ex. I also really liked that when Jay blew off Angels' coming out as just him supporting Jay and the LGBT students, they didn't let it sit and fester, but talked it out. The story felt pretty low-angst to me, except for right near the end, but there is a near-fatal car crash, short-term memory loss, homophobic protests, and a bomb threat. Be aware if any of these will distress you. There is some suspense and drama from the protesters and a nasty ex. but everything works out at the end . This is a great addition to the series, but also works just fine as a standalone.
The narration by Nick Russo is fantastic. I especially love his voicing of Emory. All the characters had distinct and easily recognizable voices. The delivery and pacing were perfect.
I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Wonderful Friends to Lovers Romance
What a wonderful story!
Best friends-to-lovers, amnesia, and a sexual awakening... some of my all-time favorite tropes. In Memory Lane H.J. Welch blends them all together, and it works brilliantly.
For these two besties, who finally get back in touch with each other after a long separation, falling in love just comes naturally. Jay and Angel have great chemistry, and as the story evolves, all their buried emotions start to surface, and it flows from there. Nicely done!
The series is narrated by Nick J. Russo, and Memory Lane is the fifth story. Some characters pop in and out, but basically each of these novels stands alone. (I'm listening to them completely out of order, and H.J. Welch makes it easy to follow along.)
A wonderful, feel good series, which I highly recommend.

An adorable friends-to-lovers story
Angel and Jay's romance was much sweeter and more emotional than I expected, and I loved every second! I've always been a fan of a good best-friends-to-lovers story, and the added dash of suspense and self discovery made this one particularly captivating. Despite the accident that set Jay and Angel on a path towards romance, their journey was remarkably low angst. Sure, Jay and Angel had some serious self-reflection to do in this book, but they never took their fears and insecurities out on each other. Their time together was wonderfully domestic, and the way the two of them were so comfortable around each other made me feel like the jump from platonic to romantic wouldn't be as daunting as it seemed. It warmed my heart to see how supportive their group of Pine Grove friends were, and Angel's movie set co-workers were just as amazing. When things started to heat up between these best friends, it felt like all the missing pieces were finally slotting into place. Granted, it did take Jay and Angel a lot longer than I thought it would to work through their communication barrier, but it was worth the wait to see how adorable and loved-up they were towards the end. Despite a few moments where I was really scared that outsider interference would strain their new relationship past its breaking point, Angel and Jay proved that nothing could come between their bond. Nick Russo's narration was very nicely done, and even though this story had over a dozen characters it was easy for me to tell them apart.
