You don't have one brain - you have three; your ancient Chimp brain that keeps you alive, your modern Professor brain that navigates the civilized world, and your Computer brain that accesses your memories and runs your habits (good and bad). They fight for control all the time and that's when bad things happen. What if you could stop the thoughts and feelings you don't want? You can.

Great book!
Great book!! It's premise is from a martial arts perspective, but the concepts and performance tips can be universally applied in all sports and in life. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and learned new techniques which will definitely improve my training sessions and race day performance. As an elite amateur athlete and former NCAA All American, I consider myself pretty confident and successful, however this book will help anyone, at any level, improve their game, whatever it may be. Thank you, Phil Pierce, for sharing these insights!

An Excellent Audiobook For Mental Motivation
MENTAL COMBAT is an exceptional audiobook on sports psychology and performance. Whether you're in a competition or not, there are some good practical skills to be learned here. Staying focused and positive is key to being successful. This book teaches you mind hacks, eliminating fear, posture, overcoming or managing anxiety as well as many other things one can do to stay ahead of your competition. This is a terrific book, written by PHIL PIERCE, that can be applied to anything you want to do. Training the largest muscle in your body; your mind.
JAY PRICHARD does an outstanding job narrating this audiobook. He speaks clearly, has a good pace, and has a positive attitude that resonates well with the listener. In my case, me. I'd definitely recommend listening to this to improve your skills as an athlete or for motivation in any endeavor.

Remaining Calm in Combat
What did you love best about Mental Combat?
The key to become an "elite" athlete/warrior: learning how to use your mind to control conflict (rather than allowing conflict to control you).
The steps to controlling conflict:
1) Recognize the conflict
2) Manage the conflict (remain present)
3) Analyze your opponent or the situation
4) React
The rest of the audiobook contains strategies for completing steps #1-4 above.
Good stuff!

felt like there was some filler trying to convince the audience that the psychology of combat is super scientific, which i guess is important for some people but I had to skip skip to try to get to the useful bits. also I felt like the advice could be fleshed out with clear examples of practical use.

Watered down info
the narrator was decent. I thought the info was a little elementary for what I wanted. I was hoping for a more technical approach and it sounded like a self help book the whole time. It's half my fault for not researching the book prior to listening to it, i think. I will relisten to it and maybe take notes, see if that changes my opinion.
