Of all the Emperor’s sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster’s besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet – the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

great end to a great series
this author has captured Mephiston perfectly. He's part Vampire Hunter D, part Alucard, and part Gandalf. it's a recipe for greatness.
The series meanders a bit, but it gets where it's supposed to go. The 3rd book of the series is perhaps the best of the 3. I'll know for sure when I listen to the trilogy again as a whole.
I fell asleep during the ending the first time and woke up not liking the book. But then I found my place and listened again. The ending is abrupt. You have to listen carefully. But when it all adds up, it left me with that "YEAH!" feeling.
So I say you give this story room to wander, don't be afraid to rewind it. Like the book's protagonist, it is arcane. But it's extremely rewarding when you give it a chance. In a lot of ways, it's a departure from some of the more action-ish, fast-paced 40k books.
I think if you liked The Lords of Silence and Angel Exterminatus from the HH Series, you'll enjoy this one. It's weird and some of it is a lot to absorb, but the author does right by the character and the Chapter.

I loved my first look at Mephiston
I realized that this isn't the first Mephiston book, but I jumped in here anyways, and found that I was still able to follow and enjoy the story. Meph is an interesting character, Magnus and Co are always fun in a 40k novel and the intrigue was enjoyable.
Not every 40k book holds my attention, but this one had me looking firward to my.work commute for several days. The Emperor Protects ;)

Great Story to Finish the Mephiston Trilogy!
This story brings a end to this trilogy in a great way, albeit a bit sad towards the end. (It's foreshadowed heavily in the other books, but still does the Blood Angels proud.) Richard Reed is BRILLIANT in is reading of 40K books and does another great job!

Constantly on the edge
This book really had me constantly on the edge of my seat a true thrill from beginning to end it constantly keeps you captivated and wondering what will happen next. The narration that was done and the formance played by him were as expected very easy to distinguish the individual characters and understand and feel the emotion of the situation in the setting that is before you. He did a very good job at being able to make it easy to understand what's going on despite how complex certain things may get closer towards the end. The author does a great job at being very descriptive of the settings our champion finds himself in and this paints a picture that most would get lost in the attempt.
Overall top notch performance top notch writing this will have you on the edge of your seat, it is a great 3rd and final book.

The series seems to be getting a bit stale.
I really love the idea of Mephiston but feel that we don't know much about him. This is the third book of this series and although I liked it, I feel the story is fading. It's hard to gain any affinity with the characters. I'm a big fan of the Eisenhorn and the Ciaphas Cain series as we learn enough to like or understand the cast.
This story was fine, but to be expected with a 'Psyker' story there is a lot of weirdness glued together about 'The Warp' and Chaos which doesn't really need to make sense, but I feel was used too much and when you filter down the plot to it's bare bones - Something Chaos-ish happens but it's stopped by Psykers doing Warpy stuff. The end feels like a let down 'well this happened because....', maybe I missed something but don't really care enough about this one to go back and check.
I would love to keep listening but might have to take a pass on the next one.

Disjointed
Really disappointed with this book. While it was still an acceptable piece of entertainment it really failed to deliver much towards to greater story of Mephiston. Much like the 3rd book of Fabius this is a filler with not much real substance. Certainly some bits and pieces of 40K lore is in there but I think the author has little real knowledge of the greater universe that is 40K. Still it is average read or listen. Hopefully the next is better and back on task.
