Modern Twist

I was disappointed in the fact that the mythology was modernized, it took away the ancient storytelling I was hoping to hear.

difficult to enjoy

Because this title has been modernized to appeal to European children, it often sounds more like german folklore than mesoamerican. Specifically its really strange to hear a story told with the prose of European folklore but have mesoamerican names for characters. it makes those names feel really out of place.

While I'm grateful for this collection i do find certain elements to be problematic. Such as the use of the word "savage" in reference to the mesoamerican peoples, and the glorification of "womens work being for women" when thats just not how the society was organized.

fair

these stories were told through the eyes of European eyes which is fine because we can still see through some of the haze which is the truth behind these stories. overall I found the stories fun and interesting, I think this would be great for anyone who is interested in a decent overall experience that is mythology of these beautiful native people of the Americas.

Informative audio book

This audio book is a great introduction to the myths and legends of the mesoamerican people. It's great because there's more to explore, but this gives you a lot of info to be able to explore the myths further.

Exactly what you would expect and enjoyable

I've listened to most mythology audiobooks out there now. There are massive similarities between each of them even as far back as Gilgamesh to more modern Greek and Roman.

The Mesoamericans mythology is as fascinating as the others. Gods, wars, creation, death, sacrifice, heroes. All told in new and interesting ways. Their take on life is barbaric compared to modern day civilisation but their inventions and advancements in mathematics is astounding for their era.

It's a good listen!
