Story
When a sexy, mature man-of-means encounters a silver vixen, healing her broken heart might be worth more than gold. Dolores Chance. When I was falling apart, I fell in love. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. I ran away from life and ended up running into...his dog. Actually, his dog ran into me. I don’t care for dogs. Then I met the owner. Garrett Fox. When my neighbor’s sister came to visit, I promised to show her around town. I’m an investor in things, not people, not emotions. I’m not a fan of love. I’ve been burned before. Then I met Dolores.

I was never supposed to see him again. Him being the man wearing the perfectly tailored suit, who oozed an intoxicating mixture of wealth, rebellion, and sex appeal. One night. No strings. No names. Still riding the high from last night, I walk in to meet my new client, and he’s wearing that same dangerous smirk. Yes, I’m consulting for Callahan Sharpe. That Callahan Sharpe. Billionaire heir who abides by no rules, bucks convention, and is determined to complete one final project to honor his late father’s legacy. Luckily, and unluckily for me, I’m tasked to help.

I've been dreading this for a year. Okay, that's a lie. I've been dreading this reunion since we graduated high school 10 years ago. So why am I here, standing outside the door like the eternal wallflower I am? I'd say it's because my younger sister browbeat me into it, but the truth is, I'm tired of being a nobody. Of never taking a risk with myself and my life. And...well...maybe I'm also hoping to see him. The tall, insanely gorgeous man walking my way now. Oliver Fritz is regarded as one of Boston's sexiest doctors. I know him as the former god of our school.

I’m a single female who’s tired of relationships ruining my life. However, there are times when a date would be helpful. If you’re a single man, preferably mid-20s to late-30s, and are in a similar situation, we might be a match. Candidate must be handsome, charming, and willing to pretend to have feelings for me (on a sliding scale, as the event requires). Ability to discuss a wide variety of topics is a plus. Must have your own transportation and a (legal) job. In exchange for your time, I will give you mine. If interested, please email me. Time is of the essence.

He's a billionaire heir. A grump supreme. Hater of people. Bigger hater of peopling with people. And my new fake boyfriend. "Emotionally unavailable" doesn’t even begin to describe Hayes Rutherford. He has more defenses than a nuclear missile silo. And he’s the ultimate catch of the century. At least, according to his bank statement. My job’s simple: Keep all interested ladies away from the walled-off heir, by pretending to be his one true love. But you know what they say about fake-dating a billionaire: It’s all fun and games, until the scandals start.

Publisher's Summary
Another romance for the over 40.
Midge Everette: I'm 41 today. It's my birthday, and I'm crying over burnt toast. That's not some euphemism. Literally, I'm sobbing over crusty bread, so I call a crisis center. I just need someone to talk to about life. Only I recognize the smoky voice of the man on the line. Sweet cheese, don't let it be...
Hank Paige: As a former rock star, I once had it all. Fame. Fortune. Females. Except for the one thing I wanted most. Then I lost everything. I fix cars now and restore other people's dreams. I just want to be somebody's someone. And there's a certain woman with captivating eyes who might be the more I'm looking for. For the love of all things, please let it be her....
In the midst of questioning everything, could love be the resolution to a midlife crisis?

I couldn't even get past first couple of chapters. I was excited to have a romance with and older more mature couple. Nope, mature they were not. I swear I thought I was listening to story with teenagers. Did not like it at all.

★¸¸.•*¨*•★Minor Spoilers Alert★•*¨*•.¸¸★
I loved being able to easily re-read Midlife Crisis with my old book buddy Beth who wanted to read this one after loving and finishing "After Care: a romance for the over 40" by this same author.
Writing style: Dual POVs
Cover and chapter design: I love it especially the fact that the hero is laughing on this cover.
Collected in Dual Formats – Yes or No? Yes! I own it in Kindle e-book (1st read) and Audible audiobook (2nd read) formats.
Ratings
Overall ★★★★½
Performances –★★★★★ for Aaron Shedlock!
He excelled at doing both male and female voices. I will definitely be on the look out for more novels narrated by him.
Performances –★★★★☆ for Teri Schnaubelt!
She has great acting instincts although I was not too crazy about her male voices.
Story 4.5-5 stars
This was a re-read via audiobook after my original Kindle format read. I enjoyed reliving Midge and Hank's fall into love so much!
Some favorite moments / elements:
Hank's admission that he wanted to be intimate with Midge when he discovered she was home in bed already. Her teasing response to him quickly turned tender as he explained further what being intimate really meant to him.
I especially loved how many scenes Hank and Midge's 3 sons had together. He was clueless about being a dad in any capacity, but I loved his approach to bonding with her sons when giving advice, explaining his feelings toward their mother, his support for their activities and then gifting them all the leather bands and explaining what the color of the beads on them meant. That scene between him and young Liam while they were waiting for Midge on their doorstep touched me so much the first time I read it in e-book format. It hit me in the heart all over again with Aaron Shedlock's great voice acting.
Coming up next: "Restored Dreams: more romance for the over 40"
I wish this entire series were already available via audiobook format. Alas, that is not the case, so it will be a while longer before I read about his brother Brut in Kindle format.

Finally an ADULT story!!
This was a great realistic, adult, mature story! I loved it. I love Arron Shedlock's voice which is why I purchased this. But I was happy to see there was actually a storyline with a grown ass woman going thru real life changes - kids, jobs, divorce - the works. I can't wait to hear Lily and Brude's story! And please keep Aaron as the narrator!

I loved it, I loved it!! For mature audiences..lol
This is one big enjoyable listen.
The narration was fantastic. Aaron was great and Teri was great as Midge. Her male voice wasn't so hot at times but who cares, this was a great story.
Hank was adorable and he had past relationship stuff he and Midge had to work thru and they did. It was interesting listening to them work thru the drama of it all.
There's family stuff, funny preteen and teenage boy stuff; there's divorce and just about everything you might experience in a mature romantic relationship.
Hank was hot and there's plenty of romance too. And Midge, well let's just say she was smitten and all sexy over Hank.
In fact, there's more romance in this book for the 40plus audience than some of the others. Quite surprisingly yes indeed. Definitely a good one!!

Not What I Thought it Would Be
I was hopeful when I read the words for the over 40 crowd. Unfortunately, I stopped listening after chapter 8. I was disappointed. I thought there was going to be more of a storyline. All I heard though was whining from Midge and all of the almost pornographic sexual happenings between her and Hank. She's a 41 yr old mom of three for gosh sakes. She screws around in the bathroom of her son's school with him right outside the door.! I realize no matter how old a person is, they have needs, desires, wants just like anyone else. BUT- you don't go around acting like horny teenagers in public places or with your kids within earshot especially if you're in your 40's and supposed to be an adult. And really, by the time a person reaches the main characters ages, they should be handling their issues without so much complaining and whining. It's unfortunate when writers fill their pages and word quotas with nothing but sexual encounters. A whole story about romance and love after 40 is what we need, not just two people screwing around to satiate their physical desires.

Great story of moving on from the past
Another great story. Hank is a former drummer and addict and now works for his brother’s garage. Midge is a divorced mom, who has been busy taking care of her sons rather than herself. When they meet, it is instant attraction, but the both have a lot of baggage to deal with. Really love how you can see these stories actually happening in real life.

Not author’s best☹️
This is the second book I’ve read by LB Dunbar. The first book I read was outstanding. This book was good but not as great as the first one. However I have to praise this author for writing books about the 40+ characters. I still feel I need to recommend because even though it’s not her best, it’s still a good book.

Duet narration needed.
I only listened to the first two chapters of this book then switched to the kindle version. Story was five stars however narration let it down. Aaron was amazing as usual although his voice is a little young I thought for the book. I didn’t mind Teri’s narration until she tried to make her voice sound deeper during male dialogue. It sounded silly and spoilt the story. It’s a shame these two narrators couldn’t have read the story as a duet. I decided not to continue listening and read the story on my kindle instead.
