Publisher's Summary

Now a Washington Post, Amazon most sold, and top 3 Amazon best seller.

From best-selling author L.J. Shen, comes a new, standalone, contemporary romance.

It should have been easy. I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death. I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent. The worst part is that I should have known better. Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.

“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”

Guess what? I didn’t listen. I signed the contract. World tour. Three months. Four Continents. 100 shows. My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god. Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too. Then he took my heart. Then he took my all.

WOW.. ELEVEN TURBULENT HOURS OF PERFECTION

Every single time I finish a new L.J. Shen book I say “this has got to be her best yet”.. but then she goes and writes another awesome listen.. and once again I repeat my mantra of “blah blah... best yet”. However, this time I’m really really reeeeeally sure this is absolutely her best work to-date and I’m in awe of this seriously gifted author and the tornado of feels her words provoke.

LJS introduces you to her damaged yet emotionally vulnerable hero and heroine who come with emotional baggage.. and you listen with glee and awe as she slowly turns their sparks into flames. their animosity into friendship.. their polar opposite lifestyles into a powerful partnership.. and their ‘end date’ relationship into forever love. She sucks you into a multi-layered plot that you know will end in tears.. but what you’re absolutely not prepared for is the tragic heartbreaking wrench she throws in from nowhere that sends characters reeling. And, as she takes you on a whirlwind worldwide tour with an arrogant a$$hole of a bad-boy anti-hero and his entourage, your heart slowly melts for this sexy English Rock Legend as his feisty tiny blue-haired sobriety ‘babysitter’ brings out a very different side to him as their chemistry solders two hearts.. and two souls together.

I didn’t want to pause or stop listening to the tightly written push ‘n pull plot of two characters who need each other.. but for very different reasons. I didn’t want to stop the angsty barbed banter, the clipped humor and the dickish behaviour as the heated dialogue slowly broke down walls. I didn’t want to stop hearing about the damaged vs the sweet as their rollercoaster relationship clicked, climbed, picked up speed and eventually careened towards impending disaster. I didn’t want to stop the sizzles, the sparks and the flames as their sexual tension finally explodes. I didn’t want to stop the talented dual POV narration as it deliciously brought everything to life. Dirty talk, wicked intentions and casual carefree jibes precede and pave the way for some powerful heartfelt phrases, cherished words, romantic sentiments and passionate promises.

Worth a credit? Well I could go on.. and on.. and on about the many many outstanding virtues of this complex, multi-layered twisted yet beautiful, entertaining, touching and memorable love story.. so YES absolutely 100% creditworthy. Take the journey yourself and listen as a handsome, but bitter, Rock God battles his demons, tries to bed bend and break his sassy yet sweet babysitter and is determined to get his cheating ex back.. but Fate and Destiny have other plans..plans that’ll eventually lead to a beautiful HEA.

Seriously

First Alex is such an abusive A'hole. I usually root for his type of character but honestly by the end of the book I just wanted him to self destruct. I thought Indigo would have been a better character she started out having spunk eventually she spends the rest of the book letting Alex walk all over and abused her I've never met a character that love to be abused more than her. Based on all the great reviews I thought this would have been a much better book

Female narrator

I am not anywhere near being through this book, but I have loved all of LJ Shen’s books, as she is one of my favorite authors for many reasons, and am confident this book will live up to all of her other amazing work.

My premature review is due to my annoyance over the female narration; I see another listener mentioned it too. Muffy/Erin is very talented, and I HATE to be so critical, but I consistently cringe during every single one of many books I have heard her narrate because of her habit of drawing out or overly emphasizing the end of the word at the end of every phrase or sentence. “........the barrier” sounds like “barrierrrruh,” “....makes me smile” sounds like “makes me smiLuh,” “felt like it was full of cotton” sounded like “felt like it was full of cottonNuh.” When I saw another listener mention it, I just wanted to 2nd her opinion, if for nothing more than constructive criticism. (Though I am doubtful the narrator would ever read this). For me, her emphatic habit distracts me from the story, because it annoys me so much that I find myself listening for it instead of focusing on the story. Again, I hate to be so critical, as the narrator is clearly talented.

Female Narrator Ruins It

I was looking forward to this as it's my kind of story, though it's trite and predictable, but acceptable for the romance genre. It seemed like it would be fun, even if the characters are a little silly and under-developed. But the female narrator, who manages to be both needlessly clipped and annoyingly sing-songy, makes this audiobook unlistenable. Had to return without completing.

Tried so hard...

I tried SO hard to like this book. I suffered through over half of the book and finally realized I’d never be able to finish the book because it was SO painful to sit through. I normally love the bad boy turns it all around for the good girl and they live happily ever after, but the male character is SO awful. He’s repulsive, self sabotaging and mean to everyone around him. He wants revenge on his former friends/girlfriend and he’s only interested in what he can do for himself. I read books like this and think to myself “I hope I never act like the heroine of this book in real life”. The male character is “damaged” but he’s manipulative and verbally abusive and aggressive.

Just WOW

So I read/listen more than I care to admit, and lately I just haven’t been impressed. This book was perfect. Perfect narration - I just love these two narrators, and Shen’s story telling continues to impress. I have enjoyed other works, but this, by far evoked more emotion and surprise and I just hated to see the story end.

Uggha

I've never written a review for an audiobook, but this one just had me feeling some sort of way. Alex is an absolute jerk to put it as nicely as possible. So much so that it's almost unbelievable and had me rolling my eyes so many times. The story took about 7 hours to finally get interesting. Luckily those last 4 hours had me hooked. I wanted to know what was going to happen in the end. As for the narrators? Ugha! The woman is so annoying to the point of distraction and I don't think the male narrator fit the character of Alex at all. I'm kind of upset I spent a credit on this, not going to lie.

that female narrator is pretty frustratingUH

I really enjoyed the story and both accents. but the American vocal habits of the female are very hard to ignore. every major phrase ending wordUH ends in an overdramatic soundUH like she is announcing a major motion pictureUH! that's my only critique tho.

Outstanding! This is the first book that I’ve ever read by L.J Shen and I freaking loved it! The angst throughout the story was emotional and heartbreaking at times but the resolution was fantastic! Alex and Indigo proved that love was hard work but oh so worth it!!

The narration of this book is criminal!

Every time Alex’s character spoke, from either of the narrators but especially from the girl, I couldn’t help but picture Billy Mack in Love actually. I had to skip most of the saucy bits cause all I could see in my minds eye was Bill Nighy shagging a young manic pixie dream girl!
The book was more funny than sexy. Not bad for a free listen but the narration really made me cringe.

Just wonderful!!!

This rendition of one of my favourite stories, has been a joy to listen to. Our flawed hero, Alex, rock star, pain in the behind and troubled hero, is voiced confidently, unrepentently and with absolute brilliance by Shane East. Muffy Newtown always delivers a warm and totally endearing performance, capturing Blue beautifully. The only tiny issue I have is the rendition of British accents ...I promise we do not all speak as if we are members of the royal family and attended Eton..especially if we are from Watford!
This rock star story is fun, warming, poignant, heartbreaking and has a twist which I didn't see coming. Indie is a complete delight in her beautiful innocence and strength. LJ Shen always writes a beautiful, tough book and Midnight Blue is no exception.

Good story but questionable narration

I enjoyed the story but can usually listen to an audiobook for hours on end, with this one I kept having to take a break because the female narrator’s English accent was the worst one I’ve heard since Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins! It’s so bad it makes you grow really irritated by the characters and their relationship.

Amazing book!!! Highly recommend

I love this book!!! It’s full of humour, reality, spice and the emotion I really felt it.
The narration from both was amazing and I feel in love with them and the story.
This story is one of those were your keep on you top toes of is it? Will it? And praying it ends well I was hocked and made sure to finish it in 1 day cause I needed to know. It worth listen for anymore who need as sexy British voice to take you mind away from reality. I can’t wait to listen to more from this author!!

probably one of my fav listens this year

I am a sucker for enemies to lovers and rockstars and this book is a combination of the 2. even if the enemy part is pretty brief. I loved every single character and he storyline is great. narration was faultless and I think both narrators, not only they couldn't have done a better job, but they both had the perfect voice for the characters. loved it and I will definitely listen to more from the author.

Not for me

I had to DNF at 72%.

The guys in this book are just absolute foul mouthed, hot heads. There really wasn't many, if any, redeeming qualities and I read a lot of morally grey male characters but I didn't like these guys at all.

I enjoyed Indigo and how she isn't the "typical" stunning female heroine and her style is very eccentric which I adored. She was fiesty and her scenes were actually the points I started counting down to. She has an end goal with this job and she knows that she needs to stay on that path otherwise her life will just go back to being nothing. Alex really doesn't care much about this and that added to his obnoxious personality. She could have had someone way better and I didn't even get to the end of the book to know she probably ended up with Alex anyway.

People with vested interests

Alex was on a path to self- destruction with substance abuse.
Indigo was employed to make sure he kept clean on this ‘make-or-break’ tour.
Friends with a vested interest, needed to get him clean and working.
Alex had a prodigious talent.

I found it hard to believe all the coincidences, especially the one where Indigo was hand-picked to be Alex’s nanny.

Wow oh Wow!

I am a huge fan if Lj Shen. and this book does not disappointment. this has everything all wrapped up into a brilliant story. heart break on many levels, love of many levels.
this book really breaks down what lies, love and addiction can do to people. I feel there was alot of research done to bring us this story. and it was amazing.
I say to dedicate some uninterrupted time to this book as you'll find you cannot put it down.
