Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Minimalism is about getting closer to what gives you pleasure. We are all aware that quality of life has nothing to do with consumer products, and that "substance" is not a measure of success. A minimalist life leads to freedom — freedom from debt, unrest, and the rat-race. Any excessive things, whether unused, unnecessarily purchased, or unfulfilling in nature that you remove will feel like a weight lifted from your shoulders.

Minimalism is the thing that gets us past the things that clutter our lives so we can make room for life's most important things - which actually aren't things at all. At age 30, best friends Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus walked away from their six-figure corporate careers, jettisoned most of their material possessions, and started focusing on what's truly important.

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

Publisher's Summary
Minimalism is a lifestyle that promotes the idea that you can be happier with less. When everything has a purpose, you are able to feel more fulfilled in your daily life. The burden of clutter can stress you out, so minimalism teaches you how to get rid of what you no longer need while also teaching you how to keep your home clean and organized.
Through various minimalist techniques, you will learn how to take an assessment of what you already own, determining which items serve a purpose in your life. Thinking about what you truly need in your life to survive and what you want in order to be happy, you will then get rid of the items that are no longer useful.
This does not mean that you must throw everything that you own away, but simply re-purpose or re-home the items so that they will be used. When something does need to be thrown away, know that it has already served its purpose for you. There is no need to feel guilty when you have used the item to the best of your ability. Minimalism will help you master these traits so that they become habits.
You will be amazed to find out just how great living minimally can feel, allowing your home and your mind to be free of clutter and worry.

Still about halfway through the audiobook, but I already fell in love with it. What I want to do is pack my things and throw it away! (Not all of them of course! haha) I've realized that there are certain things that matter more in life: family, relationships, finances, time, and professional life. You don't need anything other than the ones above. I highly recommend this audiobook to you! Quite realistic ideas for maintaining a minimalist lifestyle. Gorgeous book.
After reading this book I realized that I've always been kind of a minimalist. Author shows clearly that we do not need all that clutter surrounding us to live a happy life. What I most like about in this audible book is that author does not prescribe what minimalism is, instead he indicates that lifes much easier without unecessary items (that may vary). I recommend reading this book either if you are on the journey to a more minimalistic life or if you a so called minimalist already!

Perfect!
I listened to the audio recording and felt a mixture of admiration and annoyance for the minimalist lifestyle. I can see how minimalism simplifies your life, making it more efficient, where you don't waste a lot of time. I also love the idea of focusing on one room at a time and accepting the limitations of others in choosing minimalism. But when it comes to books, more is better, disorder is in some respects, creative chaos and decoration rolled into one.
