Publisher's Summary

A nature therapy session for the soul—encounter the benevolence of the living world through 12 essays on the Earth-healing powers of self-compassion and empathy.

When healing is needed at the deepest level, nature will always call us back home—not only to the oak woods or water-filled coves, but to the homes within ourselves.

In a series of 12 lyrical nature essays, herbalist, writer, and Earth intuitive Asia Suler illuminates the healing power of the living Earth—and gives us permission to nurture self-compassion and empathy as forces for personal and ecological healing.

In a time of unprecedented ecological devastation, it’s easy to feel hopeless and disconnected. It’s easier still to mask our inherent goodness—to imagine that our unique and precious gifts simply aren’t enough, or forget the power of our inborn empathy. For those of us who are highly sensitive, innately attuned to the workings and whispers of the natural world, it can be hard to embody the belief that we’re enough as we are—and that can heal the Earth.

Here, Suler reveals the opposite: our goodness, our empathy, our intuitive connections, and our capacity for self-compassion are more than personal traits or antidotes to despair: they are, in fact, our most potent vehicles for planetary transformation. And as we learn to more deeply nurture and accept ourselves, we unlock living, healing connections to Earth.

Combining poetic nature writing with exercises and reflection prompts at the end of each essay, Mirrors in the Earth coaxes us to come as we are: to discover and tend the inherent brilliance and medicine that lives in each of us. From the manatee-calm springs of wild Florida to the flower-dotted coves of the world’s most biodiverse mountains, Mirrors in the Earth is an invitation and encounter with the benevolence of the living world—and a nature therapy session for the soul.

Beautiful and incredibly profound

A book that resonated from beginning to end. Every point Asia spoke about was a point that I've either been looking for answers to or something g that I have experienced and Asia beautifully extracted the lesson behind it.
Amazing and incredibly profound!

An intimate Earth connection

Asia Suler describes her experiences in learning about herbs, plants, trees and fungi as direct experiences of interconnection in the sacred web of Life. I was inspired to go outside and learn more about the world of nature from which our spirits find sustenance and our bodies find healing and health. I could listen to her stories endlessly, and I hope there is another book forthcoming. Each story is a blessing to us humans and to the Earth we live on…wrapped in pure Love.

I appreciate that it was available on Audible. At my age, I enjoy listening rather than reading. Thank you Asia!

Beautiful!

I love the way these stories take shape!
Each essay explores Asia's personal experiences and the natural world in a way that first appears like a handful of scattered seeds. Soon they sprout and weave together in a tapestry of universal themes, taking root in our hearts and blossoming in our souls.
Exercises at the end of each essay leave us with healing seeds for our own growth. Lets us plant these seeds together and make the world more beautiful!

An absolute must for coming back to yourself

I have this book in physical form and use it now in a similar fashion to “Be Here Now” where the page I open, I believe to be the one I need to hear. I wanted to get the audible version to hear asias inflections and calmness as she goes through each chapter. It is a remembrance that we are all connected. It is a challenge to come back to nature find magic in a leaf. These words remind me of the type of person I want to be in the world and that being is not only for the public eye. It is a practice in self and compassion for self. This feels like a book that should be read yearly or even more to come back to the place that brings us wholeness.

Beautiful and uplifting read in these challenging times

This book is filled with so much deep wisdom and yet it is made simple and accessible through her expression of her experiences and metaphor. I’m sure this is one I will turn to again and again. Read in the voice of author too, which I always appreciate.

A wonderful experience! Highly recommended!

I recommended this book to a friend and she asked if I could give her the cliff notes version because of her active life right now... I simply could not even think of the first note other than to say it is an experience unto itself. I will be rereading this many times over! The author's style brings so much beauty to the reading/listening experience that the emotional equivalent would be looking out onto a vista or experiencing the most beautiful sunset. Thank you Asia Suler for sharing your gifts with us! Much love to you and our beautiful evolving earth and our collective human expetience ❤️🏞🌲

Reflections and Growth, a Quintessential Must-Read

If I had the financial wherewithal to be able to purchase this book for every middle school library and for every dear friend and family member, I would. This book reached deep beyond my cambium to the heartwood at my center. Asia's words resonated so deeply with me that I often found myself with tears streaming down my cheeks, an unexpected smile on my face, or a desire to go back and listen again to allow her wisdom to infuse deeper into my consciousness.
I was gifted a paperback copy of this book by a dear friend who knew that I felt a kindred connection to the posts Asia put on her Instagram. Little did my friend know that I had already purchased a copy for myself, so I gifted that to another friend. As this is gardening season, I was frustrated not to have the time to sit and read the book, so I ordered it on Audible and am so glad that I did. Asia's voice is like receiving a warm embrace from a dear grandmother, as she is wise beyond her years.
At 12, I perched upon the narrow end of a retaining wall of our driveway which went into the woods. Surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature, I read Walden, my life forever influenced and inspired by Thoreau's words. Fifty years and a world of technology later, I gardened and hiked with earbuds planted firmly in my ears and was once again thoroughly transformed by the wisdom within Mirrors in the Earth.
This book is about so much more than our relationship with nature. Like Thoreau, Suler is able to draw us deeper into the realization of self and our place in the world. You will likely feel as if you have spent time lingering in the most intriguing conversation with a dear friend, who is honest enough to be authentic in sharing their own story, while offering ageless wisdom to honor yours. You will feel seen in a way that feels intimate, yet safe, as if she somehow knew exactly what your life experience must be like.
Do yourself a favor and purchase this remarkable book, both paperback and audible, so you can go back to the paperback and reference the exercises and passages which resonate most. It might just be the best thing you've done for yourself in a long time.

This is a true gift for nature that means you and me

Asias voice and wisdom is like Music and a colorful bouquet of flowers. We speak same language - now I understand my self and the world around me. It’s just the truth delivered so gracefully. Love it 🌺
